Dear Friends and Neighbors:
For many years the Town of Malta, it’s citizens, and its elected representatives have worked together in an effort to create a workable solution to the problem of poor and, in some cases, unhealthy water supplies for residents, particularly those of us that live in the Maltaville area.
Finally, after tremendous collaborative effort, multiple studies by highly qualified planners and engineers, we have such solution. That plan is being put to you and all our neighbors in the form of a referendum this coming Tuesday. Finally, we have the power to adopt a plan that will benefit ourselves and our community.
Now, despite having had years to put its proposals and plans on the table, certain monied interests have deployed an 11th-hour, self-serving campaign to defeat this chance for us to finally help ourselves and our community. If these interests prevail in their attempt to undermine all the progress we have made over many years, you can be sure of two things: 1) we will go back to “square one”; and, 2) the only choice we’ll find waiting for us at “square one” will the very people that will profit handsomely from this underhanded, sour-grapes tactic.
Ronald Regan was fond of saying that “a rising tide lifts all boats”. The rising tide of safe and high-quality waster embodied in the proposal before us will not only be a Godsend for the dozens of our neighbors whose wells produce grey-to-black water, often filled with toxic content, but will almost certainly increase everyone’;s property values immeasurably.
We urge you to not be drawn-in by the self-serving and disingenuous fear-mongering promulgated by the very people that stand to profit handsomely if they succeed by their deceit.
Please, vote “YES” and in favor of the Malta Town Board’s proposal to create the Water Supply District Number 2 this Tuesday. Voting starts at 12 noon and continues until 9:00 P.M. at the Malta Town Hall. We have waited too long for this chance to raise all boats with clean and safe water. (Anyone needing a ride to go vote can let me know and I’ll arrange to get you a ride to the polls!
Sincerely,
Chris Luhn

PS: I am attaching (below) a message I received from Town BOard member, Craig Warner. It is provided here with his permission.
Begin forwarded message:
Subject: Maltaville, Water Supply District Number 2
The Town examined various methods of bringing water to the residents of Maltaville. In particular, it carefully examined the proposal put forth by Saratoga Water Services and obtained both professional legal and engineering advice. After considering this
advice, the Board determined that the proposal could not be accepted and explained the situation in various public meetings. The choice to be decided by the voters on Tuesday is whether to proceed with Water Supply District Number 2, or remain reliant on
private wells.
Unfortunately, I personally can’t support or recommend another Map Plan and Report be done for public water in Maltaville.
