Bengaluru, here’s what you must look at before you vote

Dear reader,

This Friday, April 26th, Bengaluru will be voting to elect its representatives in the Lok Sabha as India conducts the second of its seven-phase parliamentary polls. The choice is probably one of the most critical ones you make this year, as it will determine the future of your nation, your city and your life in it for the next five years at least, in more ways than one.

Before you vote to elect your MP, therefore, you must know exactly

  • who your candidates are
  • their past record
  • what they have promised
  • what their parties have promised
  • their stance on key issues of the constituency
  • what they can do for the institution of democracy at large

And if you are wondering where to go scouting for all that information, check out our complete coverage of Bengaluru’s constituencies, all candidates and even some pointers on voting basics.

Special Project: Lok Sabha Elections 2024

We have compiled it below in this special newsletter for ready reference. Be a responsible voter, be an informed voter.

First things first (voting basics) …

Are you confused about which parliamentary constituency you belong to? Wondering where and how to locate your polling booth? Can you vote if you are registered but do not have your voter ID card? These will clear all your doubts:

Voter Guide to help you vote in these elections

Yes, Parliamentary elections are not like local body or state assembly polls. And your MP may not be the one you rely on for fixing your regular problems, like potholed roads and broken water pipes. What does he do then, and how do you go about choosing the right candidate? Read this piece from our archives:

Voters’ dilemma: How to choose your MP

And if you are one, who would rather base your decision on what the party line is and what different political parties are promising you in their manifestos, check out the party manifestos here.
