The Abhishek Chitranshi Case : Our first story is shocking! Shocking at many levels. Shocking because it happened to an educated, aware young woman. Shocking because it happened in today’s times. Shocking because of the meticulous planning involved by the criminals in defrauding the young woman and her family. Shocking also because the authorities do not seem to want give it the attention that it begs for.
Tanya Singh*, a qualified young engineer and working woman from an army background consented to her parents finding a suitable match for her. Her parents used one of India’s foremost matrimonial sites “Shaadi.com” to locate a match for her.
A match was found. A qualified boy with an overseas degree & a flourishing career abroad – Abhishek Chitranshi. Her parents travelled to Bangalore to meet the boy’s parents and all seemed well.
Before the engagement, in Decenber 2008 the girl’s parents asked the boy’s side to produce some certificates to be able to verify the claims made, but these were apparently locked away safely and were therefore not shown. They did not press for fear of offending the boy’s family.
None of the boy’s relatives (apart from the immediate family) seemed to have turned up for the engagement.
At the boy’s parent’s behest the marriage took place in Bangalore, and various demands were made that led to the girl’s family incurring increased expenses. The tone of the family was suddenly more authoritative but these things are seemingly common in traditional Indian wedding set ups, so not much was being read into it. At least at that time.
During and after the wedding, in Jan 2009 the girl and her parents observed many small things like the heavy drinking habits of the boy & his family, going back on their word on marriage arrangements & delaying the marriage registration, the boy disclosing later his numerous affairs and also that his salary was actually less than half of what it was originally quoted etc. etc. This set alarm bells ringing in the girls ears.
To add insult to injury the arrangement was that the girl was supposed to join the family overseas only later, and on a student visa not on a spouse visa! During this time she was expected to live with the boy & his family without a registered marriage, without disclosing that they were married (apparently for visa requirements) and her family was expected to fork out an additional 24 lakh rupees as fees for the educational course that she was supposed to be joining!!! Humiliated, cheated, the girl knew something was wrong and asked her father in law who was still in India to send her to her husband on a spouse visa instead of the roundabout way that they were proposing as that would entail lying, an immoral humiliating living condition and an additional, totally unnecessary financial burden on her father. Her father in law then got abusive, threatening and violent.
Similar threatening conversations were had with the girl’s father where threats were made about getting the girl arrested in Hong Kong with narcotics in her bag! The boy during this time was not contacting the girl at all nor was he sending any documents which would have enabled the girl to make official changes to her marital status. No CD of the wedding video was handed over either.
Once the girl & her family made investigations they came to the following shocking realizations:
The father in law was not a qualified doctor nor a doctorate holder as he had claimed.
The boy/husband had lied about his qualifications as well, in additional to the aforesaid lies about his salary.
The house in Bangalore that they had shown as their own was also a rented place.
The father in law had to leave his hometown of Kanpur because there were cases or fraud against them there.
The boy & his father (husband & father in law) are also suspected to be involved in defrauding some NGO’s in the foreign country that they live in.
They are also suspected to be involved in Drug trafficking, human traficking and illegal immigration practices.
It became amply clear that this was a family of confidence tricksters. They freely violated Indian & Foreign immigration and marriage laws. They do this for a living.
The girl is now trying to locate these fraudsters, bring them to justice, get her divorce and move on with her life. It is enough that she & her family had to endure such trickery & prolonged trauma.
It is imperative that these tricksters are tracked down and brought to justice. There is no knowing how many people they will cause harm to if they are allowed to roam free in society.Below are the details of the cheats , please revert back to us on this platform or contact the Bangalore police – Banaswadi police station if you come across any one of them. Like Tanya any one of us can fall into this and hence we must all today unite not only for our selves but for all the women in this world.
