Our nation is in a crisis today. We, as citizens, are not enjoying the fruits of independence (‘Swarajya’) in full measure. We are yet to be liberated from the shackles of substandard public services, pervasive corruption at the highest levels, un-empowered local governments and a distorted political-electoral system. However, this crisis presents us with an opportunity to redesign our existing institutions and build credible and effective mechanisms to bring real reforms.

 

As a part of this effort, Lok Satta Malkajgiri and Foundation for Democratic Reforms (FDR) are organizing a Round Table Conference with Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan, President of Lok Satta, and a group of eminent citizens of unimpeachable credentials. This group comprises of distinguished jurists and citizens rich and varied experience in judiciary, legal profession, constitutional authorities, anti-corruption agencies, civil society movements and media. The purpose of this Round Table conference is to facilitate a discussion, build a consensus and generate inputs focusing on: 

  • Citizen's right to public services
  • Strong anti-corruption and accountability mechanisms at the State level and below (Lokayutka, local Ombudsman, etc.)
  • Genuinely empowered local governments for accessible and effective governance
  • Fundamental political and electoral reforms
  • Towards helping bring about much needed reforms so that good governance (‘Surajya’) is achieved. We cordially invite you to participate in the Round Table. 

The Round Table will be held:

 Date    : 16th September 2012 (Sunday) 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Venue : Sri Gajanana Function Hall, East Anand Bagh Main Road, Malkajgiri
