Iam trying to trim or split an audio clip using the Trax Editor and I get an error saying it cannot be done with audio. Normally, I'd use this opportunity to have my students learn a little Garage Band or Soundtrack Pro. However, my virtual students may not have access to a good audio editor so I need to figure out how to do it in Maya. I've been searching and Googling but I seem to be taken in circles within the Autodesk help area. So, rather than wasting even more time, I thought I'd throw this out there.

Maya is not an audio editor and I don't recommend it to use for any audio task other than checking sync or doing some basic tests. You should edit audio in a dedicated audio application or the video editor you use for final video creation.

Audacity is proudly open source. This means its source code remains open to anyone to view or modify.

A dedicated worldwide community of passionate audio lovers have collaborated to make Audacity the well-loved software it is today. Many third-party plugins have also been developed for Audacity thanks to its open source nature.

Im really considering buying the Helix stomp but I have a major question which is going to be the dealbreaker or not. My question is; when connected to HX edit software, does Windows allow other programms (e.g. YouTube, Guitar Pro, Windows mediaplayer etc) to run sounds simultainously with HX edit along? And how would this work? Through windows soundcard/headphones out, or does it need to be connected to an amp aswell or via headphones out on the stomp?

When the Helix Stomp is connected via USB it becomes your computer's soundcard. All audio produced by your computer will be routed to the Helix and heard at the Helix audio outputs. So yes, all sound producing programs running on your computer will be heard through headphones or speakers connected to the Helix.

As Silverhead said, BUT...ASIO programs like GTR3 will use the Helix as soundcard. Streaming programs like YT, Spotify (non ASIO) and the like can be routed through your computer's soundcard by selecting the computer's sound card as the DEFAULT PLAYBACK DEVICE in Sound P.anel. This way, if you want to Stream YT or Spotify through your TV or stereo and have the Helix play through your guitar amp or FRFR speaker, you can do that.

What I'm saying is that when GTR 3 is running (either standalone or via Reaper), ASIO blocks all other sound output. What i'm running right now is the guitar into a Zoom R16 (w/ ASIO driver) --> GTR 3 --> headphones. It will not run for example Guitar pro/YT sounds at the same time GTR 3 is open, which is super annoying since I want to play along. Tried multiple things like different ASIO drivers and even through the windows soundcard, but it wont work unfortunately.

Just wat to know if I can use the Helix stomp w/ headphones and simultiously run guitar pro or any other sound program also through the headphones? (So: Guitar --> Stomp --> Pc (Edit which gives the commands to helix) --> Youtube --> Headphones)

There's a thing in Logic... for over 10 years I still don't understand this... if I double-click on an audio file, it opens in the edit audio window, and then you can view Track(for Flex) & "File". But in the "File" view, if I want to remove 3-4 db in the Fonctions settings, sometimes it's grayed out and I can't do it. I thought it was the Flex, then I remove all Flex on that track but I'm still unable to edit that audio file in the Audio window... it's grayed out. So I don't know anymore and I cry.

It could be that you're trying to edit a file that is in a distribution file format, such as mp3, AAC or m4a. To edit a file, it needs to be a production file format: a PCM file with a wav, aiff or caf extension.

Just to be clear... I'm on a track in the main window, in this track I edit the wave, cut it, fade in/out, remove what's between the words etc... and then if I double-click on the one of those "pieces" and the Audio editor opens, sometimes I can use the Fonctions settings to change the Gain and other times I can't. See images...

So: when you're having this issue, is it with a wav file that you've recorded yourself in your Logic project (in which case you should be able to edit it just like any other PCM file whether wav, caf or aiff) or with a wav file that you obtained from another source (in which case it's likely to not be a PCM file, which would explain the issue)?

I recorded those wave files in another studio on ProTools, exported in wave 24b 41100, and I don't think it's the issue cause some of those same waves are fine... and it's PCM for sure. I just passed an hour clicking on multiple waves, some works, some don't, and I can't seem to find any difference at all... mystery. I put Flex Pitch on some of those tracks before but "desactivated" it... so the Flex is not "ON" on any tracks. Is it maybe because I already "Flexed" them before and now I can "go back" to edit those one?

Audacity does not edit video. You can install FFmpeg then let Audacity extract the audio from the video to its internal lossless audio format. Or you can create a separate WAV file in Bandicam as you have done and import that WAV into Audacity.

Then replace the audio in the video using a video editor such as listed at AVIdemux should replace the audio fine without having to re-encode the video. Re-encoding the video always loses quality because it is not practicable to use lossless video formats. Lossless video is of colossal size and apart from the storage issue, computers will find it hard to play such video smoothly.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how I can record/edit audio on fedora 34+. I used to use audacity, but audacity does not work with pipewire so I cant record or get any playback sound. I installed sound recorder and that works for recording audio, but I still need to ability to edit it so I can trim/cut parts I dont need or trim off trailing silence from when the audio ends.

Hi @lavacreeperking my Fedora 35 workstation Audacity install (dnf install) works.

If you did a standard Audicity install (sudo dnf install audacity) and if your audacity is not working consider it a bug. report to bugzilla or to audacity.

Try dnf remove audacity an after that install it again.

Try for audacity help also.

Totally free and easy to use! With our simple interface, editing audio is very easy. Just upload your track, select the part you want to cut out, and click crop. Your trimmed sound track will be ready within seconds!

I've been trying to split a song medley into its three parts, but it's time to admit defeat. I just can't do it, and know that I will go to bed with the job undone after spending many hours of unproductive effort. NOT THIS TIME.!!!

Well, I'm sure it can be done, but I'm just not sure that my reflexes are fast enough. I don't know if it's possible, but having more visible horizontal space to track with the time would help a lot. In other words, if two syllables could occupy two horizontal inches, I think I could do it. Faster than that and I'd probably be frantically clicking in the wrong places ending up with a blank screen. Frankly, I'd rather pay someone to do it for me.

I just thought of a way that would make it easy, but I'm not sure that it can be done. I have the recording. Is there. way that I can play it at, say, 25% speed? That would make it easy to stop and stop it at the proper places. Then, I'd still have the problem of making three separate audio files, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

In Sound Studio you can expand the waveform timeline as much as you want to get the exact spot where you want to make splits. After you insert a marker (for the split) you can finely adjust (drag) it's location if you didn't get it quite right at first. (No need to change the speed.)

That depends. It CAN be easy, but it depends on the wave profile. It's definitely not easy with the wave I'm now looking at. Yes, I know you can change the profile, but nothing I do makes it easy. Funny thing, though, eight or nine years ago, I managed to extract a song from the very same medley and even posted it in YouTube. It was one of the five songs I posted there before I realized that I didn't have enough ability to do it-properly. Sometimes when you ask yourself, "Was I better then than I am now?" the answer is not one you like to hear.

Thanks for that. I don't know when you posted it, but less than five-minutes ago, I discovered that there are many, many apps for doing what I need. However, the very last sentence of you posting inclines me towards your choice. That was one of the "problems" that was worrying me.

"Sound Studios" sounds like a great app. but it costs $50, and I'm only planning on using it twice. I could use it for my needs and then not buy it, but that doesn't seem right. No, instead, I'll use one of the of the FREE apps. Thanks for your input, though.

Can get a bit confusing:

If its set to Show Clip Keyframes you can edit the audio clips but not the audio track.

If its set to Show Track Keyframes you can edit the audio track but not the audio clips.

You can convert a shared copy to a real copy by selecting Edit > Functions > Convert to Real Copy. This creates a new version of the clip that you can edit independently. The new clip is automatically added to the Pool.

So I just downloaded a song and it works just fine, the pc can open and play it. But it doesn't let me edit the details like "Artist" or "Album" and it's blank. And if I use and tag editor it has errors even opening it. What can I do?

The solution is very simple. Click on "Contributing artist". The entire line will highlight blue. Now click in the right hand side of the blue band and this section of the ban will go white while leaving "Contrubiting artist" blue. You can now click into the white bit an type in the name of the artist
