My nephew is starting an new business that, of course, includes computer
requirements and has hired me to recommend and manage that part of the
business.
Since he is in Sudbury and his partner is in Toronto, I am suggesting
matching Linux servers on each site configured to remain dynamically in
sync.
That way if the primary server goes down, they can switch immediately to the
backup site without loss of business.
Since each will be running from a home office, I am considering small
business gigabit routers with VPN capabilities to separate system management
from Internet clients.
There would be one here, in Toronto and in Sudbury.
A VoIP system will give redundancy to the call center and automated
fall-back as well.
I would have jumped at one of the positions you mention if my wife and I had
not decided that I am to continue as a contractor and not take a 9-5.
I use the Linux component now to speed up my operations and I am sure it has
helped me to get a couple of contracts that would not have been accepted
before.
Without being able to streamline my time requirements, it would have taken
too long [too expensive] for the client to accept my quotes.
Again I thank you for accepting me on the course and hope to see you at the
convocation.
Regards,
Fairch
