Dear All,

We are sharing great News: The establishment of the Faculty of Computing as the 9th Faculty at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

As you know, Since July 2021, the CIS Staff led by myself started to prepare the Establishment of Faculty of Computing proposal, and gradually we received the approval of the Faculty Board – of Applied Sciences, the University Senate, and the Council of SUSL.

Back in November 2021, We submitted the proposal to UGC Quality Assurance Council, and that was approved by April 2022.  We presented to the UGC and then UGC Commission approved the Establishment of the Faculty of Computing on the 6th of October 2022 as the 9th Faculty in Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

The Faculty of Computing has three departments. Namely, the Department of Computing & Information Systems, the Department of Software Engineering, and the Department of Data Science.

The total number of annual intakes is currently set at 290 for all three programs.

For the invaluable guidance, motivation, and support we would like to express our gratitude to Senior Prof. R.M.U.S.K. Rathnayake, the Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka; Prof. E.P.N. Udayakumara, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Dr. Rasangi Sabaragamuwa, the former Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences; Prof. Darshanee Ruwandeepika, the Director, Center for Quality Assurance; Mr. Janitha Liyanage, Coordinator of the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell.

The cooperation extended by all the academic staff members including the visiting academics, academic-supportive and non-academic staff members, representatives from the ICT industry and the stakeholders from public and private sector organizations, the alumni and the undergraduates of the Department of Computing and Information Systems are highly acknowledged for their tremendous support and cooperation in making this achievement.

This is going to be a great achievement for all of us.  As it grows and expands, the Faculty of Computing continues to look forward to the support and cooperation of all of its stakeholders, in order to maintain the effectiveness of the processes for managing and ensuring the quality of all its degree programmes, student learning experience, and standards of awards in the years to come too.

Best Regards,

Priyan
