Now, I am not sure how much of this may be a Staad issue, but I
figured I would throw it out here first. I have a Russian project that
is using DIN profiles. The model was originally created in Tekla
Structures 15.0. I am attempting to import into Staad 2006. Initially
I imported it as is. Only to receive an error that Staad didn’t have
the IPE shapes in the AISC database. I then toggle the default section
library to German. Once again, the CIS/2 link states that there aren’t
any of these profiles in the AISC database. Next I trick Staad by
renaming the German library to AISC and I get same error. When I crack
open the actual .STP file I can’t find a reference to anything related
to AISC (As I suspected). Is this a CIS/2 link error within Staad or
could it be possibly my export from Tekla Structures. Any input would
be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Gary,

First let me preface my answer by saying that I don't use either Tekla
or STAAD.

In the CIS/2 files, the sections are given by "IPE240" and other
similar designators. The actual dimensions of the section are not
given.

I think you need to be using STAAD with the correct sections database
that has the German IPE sections in it.

hey Gary, myself Sachin here,  / working with i don't know if i should disclose or not as per my company's IT policy, /

I recently had the same problem of NON - AISC section profiles being imported to STAAD 2006 from SP3D. the error log of import says the profiles cant be imported coz they are not found in the AISC library. I searched internet stuff, n finally found out that STAAD 2006 is useless for international profile import, what you need is STAAD V8i version for better interoperability.

One way of checking the fault in STAAD 2006 is just make a simple model of DIN sections and export to cis/2 file. and reopen that file in STAAD 2006 and boom it probably won't open.....the same problem.

EVEN for V8i version to work, The line which instructs the use of reference standard viz. AISC, Indian, DIN to STAAD must be correct for STAAD V8i to import correctly.
Another major issue is the section name in .stp file has to be exactly same as STAAD calls it. Also,
User sections created somewhere else like in XSTEEL may be wont be assigned to members if not in STAAD.

Let me know if I can be of any help

To increase membership, why not put a link to this Google group on the
AISC CIS/2 web page http://www.aisc.org/content.aspx?id=17574 or send
out an email to the AISC membership?

Will there ever be any content on:

I recently found this link about exporting CIS/2 from STAAD.
