Communication Error?

Hello,

I just got machine today, set it up. Install software, driver, setup communication port then try to run it but I always got message "Communication Error".
- Get firmware version worked so I assumed communication was good
-When I send G code command I said Error: machine not ready.
-When I set "home", It said "Communication Error".

Any ideas what went wrong?

Hi Loc,

The values, which are inside "Calibration parameters" box, need to be filled in from the calibration certificate you've received with your Cirqoid.

The other missing values, are mostly Z offsets, which are specific to each particular machine. Here's the suggested procedure for these offsets:

Go to the manual control mode.
Put a PCB on the machine bed
Insert a V-Tool in the machine’s spindle
Insert a spindle in the machine, but don’t fix it with a screw
Put a piece of paper on the PCB and manually lower the spindle bit by bit until the paper gets pinned to the PCB with a V-Tool
Note the Z position of the machine - it will go to Z offset in “Isolation milling” pane of settings.

Repeat the procedure with a drill. Don’t forget to put a spacer between a PCB and a machine bed, before measuring this offset!

The drilling offset will be also good for contour milling.

Dispensing and pick and place offsets are measured in the same way.

Yes, it worked. Thanks. What I concern is machine support small dimension of PCB. Is the a way that software could enlarge X and Y dimension to support larger dimension of PCB?

Hi Loc,

Great to hear it worked!

The physical travel range of Cirqoid in X axis is 100mm, there's nothing you can do in the software to add the metal to the machine.

The Y axis has more travel then 160mm, but longer PCBs are not officially supported. Depending on what you are into, you may tweak the settings to utilize longer Y axis travel, but you would loose components placement functionality.

Anyway, I'd suggest to start with officially supported configurations.

After dispensing solder paste and pick and place components, Should I need to heat up assemble PCB in order to get components soldered? Or just wait for solder paste dry? Please advice this procedure.

I ordered solder paste from Cirqoid.  How do I store solder paste? put it in refrigerator?

Loc,

You definitely need to reflow assembled PCB in reflow oven. And you need to do that reasonably fast after paste was dispensed - within several hours. After the paste has dried, the flux in the paste will have evaporated and you won't be able to reflow it anymore.

Indeed, it's better to store the paste in the refrigerator - at 5-15ºC.

Hi Loc,

You can use any solder paste. It just has to be in a 10cc syringe and be suitable for air dispensing - often manufacturers have pastes designed for stencil printing and for air dispensing. Otherwise, there are leaded and lead-free pastes. Another parameter of the paste is how fine solder particles are mulched, which ultimately defines how fine needle you can use and thus how fine pad you can dispense to. For some reason this is called "type". The most common pastes on the market today are Type 3 and Type 4. Type 3 paste is ok for needles with 0.4mm hole, while type 4 works with needles down to 0.25mm.
