BackstoryI had to move a bunch of files off of my Dropbox since my account was being downgraded after a certain trial period provided by my university. Those files were transferred to an external hard drive. This hard drive, however, which contained all of my documents from the past 15 years, was lost during a recent move to a new job out of state.
I am seriously in mourning over this loss--all the photos of my children, my dissertation research, my professional work and unpublished manuscripts, and other priceless files. I don't say this to garner any sympathy--my emotions are just so raw right now. Is there anyway that my total files from May 2022 (3 months ago) can be restored? While Dropbox did not have everything that I was saving, I am willing to pay for the highest priced plan to recover these. Restoring those deleted files will be a small consolation for my loss.
Unfortunately, files deleted more than 30 days ago cannot be recovered. Even if you paid for an upgraded plan, the extra recovery time would only apply to files deleted after the upgrade. There's just no way to recover files beyond your recovery period.
Sorry for your loss. I restored a file and thought I had until today to restore; I've been very busy with a new job and just checked to find I've lost a file of 2000 photos from a holiday of a lifetime. Unless the system automatically deletes (& even then there is always a recovery system) surely there is or should be a recovery service, regardless of cost?
Dropbox does not automatically delete files I'm afraid @Tod1907 and no, there is no recovery either - you have to remember Dropbox is storing billions of files and the cost and storage needed to keep extra would be astronomical. They'd also be on dodgy legal grounds if they said data is permanently deleted and then it wasnt.

Dropbox doesn't (and can't) clear your files like that. Look at your Events page for any deletion events to get an idea of what might have happened. Restore one of the files and look at its version history to see where the deletion occurred.
Hi there, if I upgrade my account, can I recuperate files which were deleted more than 30 days ago? I appear to heave deleted a large number of files and have checked the deleted files folder but they are not there. I'm not sure when the last sync took place but have checked all the folders in my account and cannot find the missing files. Thank you
No, upgrading now will not allow you to recover files deleted more than 30 days ago. The extended recovery time is only for files deleted after you upgrade. Files you deleted more than 30 days ago are already gone.
Some time ago, I deleted files from my drobox, and I would need to get them back. I currently have the basic plan and the question is: if i upgrade to one of the paid plans, how old files I can get back? 3 months? a month? a Year?

Hi, some important files were deleted from my dropbox on the 27/03... I have a basic account. So 3 days to late to get them back. If I suscribe right now a professional access with 180 days of recovery, is there any change to find these files back ?
Does view mean if I drop from professional to starter I will loose all version histories (so they are deleted) or can I access them again after upgrading to professional again (no matter when I do that)?

Once an item has been deleted and is in the trash, it will remain there for 30 days. You can alternatively navigate to the trash view in your vault and restore, or permanently delete the item immediately.
This seems to be an odd behavior. When I have a Trash I can move things into, usually I have the choice of emptying it - or not. Therefore I suggest a setting, where we can switch the auto remove after 30 days off.
Maybe its a bit strong. You found two perfect examples. But how about every Trash on every OS? Data Governance can have many faces. Per my job I am very aware of that. But ultimately, there should be freedom of choice.

Archive old accounts Feature Requests Likewise I, too, have old accounts and passwords for sites that I do not ever want to be filled when logging in, but I keep them around because they are terrifically useful for when I get those lovely blackmail scam emails that mention old passwords. I am then able to attribute the leaked password.
Hi,
I have an InfluxDB running on a Pi3B+ storing power consumption of 4 devices I have a home.
The device give a reading every 20secs, and then I have a process to create hourly, daily, aggregate values.
thanks Scott for your feedback.
The problem is that I would like to keep the aggregate values for a long period of time (2yrs) and delete only the raw values after 30 days. I think if i set the retention policy to 30 days all the data will be deleted
Once thats done, then create a batch TICK script to downsample the data (this is from a script i currently use, but you should be able to swap the measurements and fields and fiddle with it to get you started.)
The best advice really is to read those articles about when to use CQ or Kapacitor to work out which best suits your needs. If you have a small amount of data to process then CQs might be the better option (1 less service to run)
Another point, my batch script above renames the fields mean_field_name - If you want to preserve dashboards and field names, you can change the AS mean_field_name to just AS field_name, that way you could just duplicate your dashboards and update the retention policy in the query.
What I did not understand is how I can have two retention policies, I guess I need to do some reading. I was originally looking for a query to delete data older than for example 60 days and use the where clause to select which data I want to delete. I dont mind doing it manually every month.
This process of downsampling and storing lower precision data can be repeated as many times as you need to. You just need to design the flow and balance data precision with disk usage over time. The higher precision your data, the more disk it will use.
You can have one database, but you should create multiple retention policies in that database. Store high resolution data in a short retention policy and create a continuous query to downsample into another retention policy with a longer retention period. InfluxDB is designed to accommodate this specific workflow.
Checking the database every day will be much more accurate (but can still be up to 24 hours out), and if there are things being deleted every day, probably more efficient (whereas if things are only being deleted every few days, then this method will be less efficient).
The only workaround is to delete the clips manually if you want less than 90 day retention. I review all clips every 2-3 days and manually remove anything not worth saving. It usually takes less than 15 minutes.
I bought my Charge HR, set it up, and plugged it in for charging. I did this a little before midnight, so it has counted that first day (which was basically nothing) as a few steps, which is factored into my average.
Due to the nature of the question asked in this thread: "How can I delete Day 1 Data", I would like us to move away from whether or not the question matters, to either A) A solution exists, here is the actual solution, or B) No solution exists.
I'd be happy to wax philosophical all day long on the nature of things and what should or should not matter - the reductio ad absurdum answer being, in the words of the great Freddie Mercury, "NOTHING really matters" -- or EVERYTHING matters, but this thread isn't really the place. I've got a full head of blonde hair, not a grey one in sight, I would simply like an actual solution, and it should be this hard.
Here's my thought... since there is clearly no real solution to just deleting the day... which there absolutely should be, because like pretty much everyone else... I turned mine on in the evening and it messes up my average...
So... my simple solution... find your average without that day as well as you can.. then subtract the number from that first day from your average number... then add walking activity like they suggest with driving... but make it walking to add the difference. At least that's what I did and I'm more pleased with that result... until there's a real solution... messing with averages drives me insane.
