Marco Antonio Coelho Bortoleto is a former gymnast, professional circus artist - PhD at University of Lleida – Spain, and Post-Doctorate at the University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Manitoba (Canada) and University of Concordia (Canada). Full Professor at University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Director of Circus Research Lab (CIRCUS/Unicamp - member of FEDEC NETWORK. Associate Research at HUPR (National Circus School / Montreal – Canada). Member of the PhD Circus Directors Network – University of Montpellier (France). Coach in Acrobatics from 2000 to 2004 at Barcelona Circus School – Spain. Partner of Cirque du Soleil Casting Department in Brazil (since 2006). Member of the Board of the CARP CIRCUS since 2016. Member of the Circus and It Others (CAIO) collective.
Summary
The Circus Research Laboratory at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) will celebrate its 20th anniversary in February 2026, as one of the leading circus study groups in Latin America. It currently brings together more than 25 researchers, with research projects in the fields of pedagogy, equipment innovation, and circus safety.
Marco will give us a brief presentation of the context of the circus in Brazil and the role ot the university in its study. He will present the UNICAMP' CIRCUS Research Lab, its scientific research highlights and talk about the CIRCONSENSO Project 2026-28 - (European Commission Funding).
