| ICC Chief Prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Israeli Officials, causing outrage by the US ruling class. On Monday, May 20, The International Criminal Court chief prosecutor applied for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defense minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Court’s criminal prosecutor is also seeking arrest warrants for three Palestinian resistance leaders, in what many see as a hypocritical move, seeing as Palestinians have the legal right to resist occupation under the Geneva Convention. The U.S. and other Western allies have reacted in outrage to the decision, with Senator Lindsey Graham declaring that if the Court goes after Israel, ‘we’re next,’ — a blatant admission of the U.S.’s complicity in the genocide in Gaza. U.S. officials are now threatening to sanction the ICC over the warrants. On Friday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) also ordered Israel to halt its invasion of Rafah, but stopped short of calling for a complete ceasefire. Criticisms and pressure against Israel continue to grow, as the movement for a free Palestine grows and Zionists lose the war of public opinion. | | | Hundreds of thousands of Iranians gather to bid farewell to the bodies of the martyrs in Tabriz on May 21, 2024 (Photo via Reuters) | |
| Iranian President and other top officials are killed in a helicopter crash On Sunday, May 19, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and accompanying officials, died in a helicopter crash in Iran's eastern province. A funeral ceremony and procession for President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdollahian was held in Tehran on Wednesday, in which hundreds of thousands of Iranians participated. Elections will take place in June as, per Iran’s constitution, the country must elect a new president within 50 days of the death or resignation of the incumbent president. Raisi is credited with transforming Iran’s public image in recent years, and his death signifies a moment of transition and uncertainty for the country. Iranian officials have blamed U.S. sanctions on the aviation industry in the country as the reason for the crash, but some have speculated that the crash could have been due to direct interference by the United States or Israel. | | | | | | | With the rise of intergovernmental alliances such as BRICS, this article from Dongsheng News addresses the challenges and opportunities of de-dollarization. | | | | | | | |
