Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, how to install libpng, freetype, libgd and GD module?

Hi,
I want to know if the process of installing libpng, freetype, libgd and GD can be used for my Mac in this link : http://circos.ca/documentation/tutorials/configuration/perl_and_modules/index.mhtml#circos-libgd-gd
My computer is Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. i try to install, but failed, so I don't know it is my wrong operation or the system of my computer leading to my failure.

Try using the method as described in http://kylase.github.io/CircosAPI/os-x-installation-guide/

In OS X, it's better to use homebrew instead of compiling on your own.

Hi Huimin,
My answer might not be very useful as I hit the same problem few months ago and followed a backdoor.

Perl GD was the biggest obstacle. I ended up installing a virtualbox, installed linux in it and everything worked
like a charm.

I suggest that you can use a virtualbox install ubuntu / get a Virtual Box image and Circos will work like a charm, Samuel, India

Hi Huimin,

You do not need to use this package if you are just starting out with Circos. It is a package that I wrote for advanced users of Circos who want to generate the graphics programmatically.

Ignore this step for now and try to run Circos but itself.

Thank you. this time no error .
 but when i installed circos, i met a new problem:
-bash: /Users/huiminchen/software/circos/current/bin/circos: /bin/env: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

I use this command :

sudo ln -s circos-0.64/bin/circos /usr/local/bin/circos

I delete /usr/local/bin/circos after you told me not need to use CirsosAPI. And I use this command:
ln -s circos-0.67-pre4 current

i wonder if i install in wrong place. Thank you.

Hi Huimin,

That error is due to OS X doesn't have /bin/env which Martin uses to find the perl.

For OS X, you will need to change the first line in the circos file or you find where env is in OS X by running "which env" then link /bin/env to that location.

I don't have my Mac with me now so I can't test it for you.
