Heat map legend

Dear users,

 

is there any possibility to automatically create a legend for a heat map created with Circos?

 

If not, what are your solutions in this case?

Not yet possible. This has been asked for several times -- it's on my todo list!

I typically make them by hand. 

If you are using Brewer palettes, you can download a PDF file with all the Brewer palettes from here

http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/brewer/swatches/brewer-palettes-swatches.pdf

and use it to sample colors for your heatmap.

The latest version 0.67-pre0 generates a text version of the legend as described here

http://www.circos.ca/documentation/tutorials/2d_tracks/heat_maps/

You can use it to guide you in creating a graphical legend. At least you'll have the range/color assignments.

The next step will be for me to add a graphical version of this.

Note that I've expanded heatmaps in this version. There are now three ways to encode colors, depending on whether you have set min/max. 

Heatmaps now also support pattern fills.
