Dear Mark,

I am running an analysis in RAxML-HPC2 on XSEDE, but at the end of the process I receive this error message in the file stderr.txt:

error: process ID out of range
 Usage:
 ps [options]
 Try 'ps --help <simple|list|output|threads|misc|all>'
 or 'ps --help <s|l|o|t|m|a>'
 for additional help text.
 For more details see ps(1).

The file _JOBINFO.TXT has this:

Task\ label=vero-rbcl
Task\ ID=2716751
Tool=RAXMLHPC2_TGB
created\ on=2022-04-27 16:57:54.0
JobHandle=NGBW-JOB-RAXMLHPC2_TGB-F3CDC2B27DC34AC8B26D22ADFD20F1D9
RunNumber=1
resource=expanse
User\ ID=128338
User\ Name=silmara
Output=(all_outputfiles,*,UNKNOWN,UNKNOWN,UNKNOWN) ChargeFactor=1.000000
cores=40
JOBID=11730923

I don't known what this error message could be, do you have any idea? I also tested with other data and all appeared the same message.

Thanks for help
Best,
Silmara

Hi Silmara,

I agree that the error message is confusing, and I am going to ask the admins for help understanding where it came from.

However, the stdout.txt file seems to indicate that the job ran correctly to completion.

Do you see any issues with the output files?

I think (but am not yet positive) that you can ignore the error message.

I will follow up if I learn otherwise.

Mark

Dear,
Thank you so much for this response, the output files are normal and I will ignore the error for now.

Best regards,
Silmara
