Greetingsand salutations my most honorable and venerable friends. You can smell the pumpkin spice in the air... which means, at long last, the haunted winds of a monster filled October are upon us. This is a special month of our online video game community. Nearly all our games were born in an October (Might have been intentional). As I write this AdventureQuest Worlds is celebrating its 10th Birthday-- which is absolutely amazing. We have a horrifying line up of game releases coming to you in AdventureQuest 3D too! (Horrifying because there are so many we have no idea how to get them all live in time!)
Prepare for the return of Mogloween, our monster filled haunted house. Then, grab some garlic and re-connect with your inner Belmont as we delve into the Vampire's Castle in Darkovia part III. While that would be plenty to sink your teeth into, we figured it would be a grave mistake not to continue straight on to the Werewolf's Lair and grand finale. These major storyline events will certainly go into November. Join us to be a part of each of these releases as it happens! Simultaneously we will be updating the older content and releasing more of the classes-- check the daily design notes for more on this.
I did something really unusual this weekend... I actually took a Saturday off. Yup, the whole day! Used my chill time to beat Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest on the original Nintendo. Last time I had done this, I was in middle school. The weirdest part... was after I put in the cartridge and turned it on, there was no "Please wait while system updates..." message XD. You may not know this, but the original Castlevania was probably THE GAME that catapulted my feeling from "I really like games" into "OMG I LOVE GAMES AHHHH AHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! PLEASE LET ME MAKE THINGS LIKE THIS FOREVER!!!! PLEASE. PLEASE! PLEASE!!!!!".
Oddly enough... I never owned Castlevania myself. At least not when I was a young child. See, I did not own any major game systems. Some of my richer friends did. I would go to their house and get to sit on the couch and watch them play. At best we would take turns... I would die in 5 seconds and they would proceed to play Zelda for several hours >_
A few years later we did get a Nintendo (NES). I saved up money shoveling snow and was able to buy Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest in Febuary or March I think. Played the living heck out of it...... except... I could not figure out how to do anything! It was not a technically hard game to play. But the puzzles and bad translations made figuring out what you were supposed to do near impossible. Like kneeling down next to the water with a blue orb for 15 seconds to make the water magically drain. Or the REALLY insane one-- kneeling with the red orb for 15 seconds in the middle of no where, with no indication of where you are or that you should do it there... because it was the furthest point opposite of the direction you were supposed to go...to summon a whirlwind to take you to an inaccessible castle on the exact other side of the map. /facepalm. I am pretty sure the only reason they had puzzles like this was to make you use their 1-900 tip line. Fortunately, a friend at school got "Nintendo Power Magazine" and it had a clue on what to do. This would not have been much of a challenge today-- but back then there was no internet nor Google. Even playing it today was incredibly challenging for me. Took nearly 8 hours. As an undead-slayer... I always felt Dracula was one of the most worthy adversaries.
So this weekend, as I entered Dracula's Castle to re-assemble him from his body parts so I could kill him again and end the curse (Actual plot of Castlevania 2...) I breathed an air of nostalgic vampire-hunting glory. I remembered why I love video games. I felt it... I really felt it. You know, it is not the pixels or words on the screen. It is what you see in your imagination and feel in your heart. Video games bring the creativity and cleverness out of us. Probably why Thyton and Dage love looking at and studying video game art. This morning, Johngarr (who created all three musical pieces for Lolosia), taught me how to play Bloody Tears (One of the fan favorite songs from Castlevania 2) on Guitar. He is really good. He is composing a few tracks for Darkovia's Vampire Castle. While we are doing something original for our Vampire lair and story... but I think it is safe to say there will be some blatant nods to the game that put the eternal flame of game development into my heart. Battle on!
We are preparing for tomorrow's SPECIAL OPENING EVENT in the brand new Battleon Arena! The servers will be offline tomorrow (August 20) between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM EST while we get everything set up. Make sure you set your SOUND slider up before you head to the Arena!
[The servers will go offline at 12:00 PM EST for the update. We estimate the servers to be offline for about 1 hour. Please make sure to install the latest version of the game once it becomes available.]
Today's Patch features the first round of PvP Testing! Please note that this is just a rough test with much more to come! PvP Testing is currently limited to Guardians and is located inside the Guardian Tower. Head to the Combat Training area and Guardian players will find the entrance to the PvP Testing area there!
Today's update introduces the brand new Class Ranks system! Class Skills will now get boosted as you play, and players can now unlock a special "Cross Class Skill" that can be equipped while playing other Classes! Check out the Design Notes for more information!
With this new feature also comes a few UI changes; main hotbar quickslots are now unlocked as you level up. Swapping skills and items into your hotbar should now be a lot quicker and streamlined. Let us know what you guys think!
03/06/2018: We are aware of the slowdown of combat that has appeared in this last patch. We are working on a fix for this ASAP! Please try clearing your cache to see if it alleviates the issue; otherwise thank you for your patience! Feel free to submit a bug with details about your device here: AQ3D Bug Tracker
Welcome to the new year everybody! We have a lot of new stuff coming this year so make sure you stay tuned! Today's patch includes an exciting feature: Guest Logins! Guest Logins will allow your friends / family and new players to jump into the game right away and start playing!
A Guest will be able to create a character as normal and start playing the game immediately; however they will not be able to use chat, nor will they be able to make any purchases (like Guardian or DC packages).
Guest Login information is stored locally on the device. If you change to a different device, then you won't be able to access the same Guest account. Guest accounts are able to convert to a normal account by using a link inside the game. Players will be able to convert to an AQ3D login or a Facebook login.
*Important Note* If you are using a Guest Login and you choose the "Reset Settings" option, it will delete your locally saved guest login information. You will not have access to your Guest account anymore once this happens.
Happy Monday! This patch addresses some of the concerns that players have had regarding aggro and loot rights. Rabblefroth has been working on tweaking the system to help alleviate some of the issues that many of you may have been having. Let us know what you think of the changes, and definitely let us know if you guys find any bugs or other derpy monster behaviour!
In this update we wanted to make combat feel more fun and exciting. We also wanted to give each of the starter classes a distinctive play style which would prepare players for upcoming classes. These updates will also set the foundation for us to start creating new classes. Yay!!
For this release we have introduced our first WAR feature! We wanted to have a fun event for you guys on this occasion so we worked to get a pretty fun system up for you all to try! This is still a very early feature and there are still many more things that we would like to add, so stay tuned for future War-type events!
Players are able to do tasks for either Cabin at any time, so choose wisely! Turn in quests to fill up the meter for your Cabin! Players will also be able to collect Craft Badges to create items in Camp Gonnagetcha. Make sure you pay attention because some items are only available when the War reaches certain milestones!
We have added a new feature which will tag an item with the year it was obtained. This only applies to SEASONAL items, which are items that get scheduled to reappear throughout the year, or otherwise.
Please be aware that items are only tagged when it goes into your inventory. Items being crafted will only get tagged WHEN THEY GET CLAIMED TO YOUR INVENTORY, and not when you clicked "Craft Item".
Items acquired through "Collections", such as the Talk Like a Pirate Day 2017, and Mogloween 2017 Collections will have all their items automatically tagged with the year that the Collection first became available, regardless of when a player adds it to their inventory.
Rabblefroth has been working diligently on updating and overhauling how stats work in the game. This reworking is the very first step that lays the foundation for the major combat updates, as well as classes updates that will be coming. It may feel rough, and it may not make sense until everything is in place; so please be patient and enjoy the ride! :)
The purpose of this overhaul is to remove some redundant stats as well as stats that may have felt too convoluted, complicated, or just not useful. Some changes will be fairly noticeable, while others may not seem too noticeable for now. I will try to shed as much light as I can on some of the changes that we've been making!
The secondary stats (Armor, Haste, Crit, Evasion) now use a RATING system. As you increase your rating in each of these stats, they will become more effective (ie. more damage absorbed, higher chance of crits, etc.)
