Just got started over to play to DLCs, wondering what you guys' input is on what order they should be played. Should I play through the original game before I start any of them? Sleep E 20:13, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

I would personally wait until level 5-10 and do the Operation: Anchorage quest first, since afterwords you will get the Chinese Stealth Armor (which i use a lot) Then do the Pitt Quest, then play through the oringinal game and do the Broken Steel Quests. After that I would go to the Mothership Zeta quest and finally go to Point Lookout. 174.42.153.60Seventeen174.42.153.60March 4, 2010

I ALWAYS start with Operation Anchorage. At the end of it you get the Gauss Rifle, and the sweet Winterized T51b armor that makes the rest of the game much more enjoyable. I have found that the enemies like the Tribals and the Swampfolk in Point Lookout to be hard to kill in the early stages of the game so I leave that for later. The Pit can be a little complicated and better weapons are helpful there so I save that for later as well. I usually Start with Operation Anchorage, then Mothership, then I do the Broken Steel, Pit and finally Point Lookout.

I played through the main storyline to the beginning of Take It Back! and then did Operation: Anchorage, followed by Mothership Zeta, Point Lookout and the Pitt. I saved the ending of the game for the end. I'm yet to actually finish a full playthrough. Portfan 18:05, May 14, 2010 (UTC)

This is such a vague answer, but just load all the DLCs and do them as your character progresses through the game. That makes it more of a seemless experience. I don't like to go out of my way to do a DLC for the prizes. If it fits in with my character at that point, I go for it. JK1464 23:35, June 2, 2010 (UTC)

Me personally i do them in order to make the game really really Fun, i start with Anchorage to get the easy experience since the enemy's are relatively the same difficulty no matter what lvl you are. Then i go do zeta and pitt with the last being point lookout Finally. I go through the normal game with the new weapons i have and start destroying the waste land civilization.

I say start out with OP: Anchorage and do the Gary 23 glitch so you can get unbreakable items. It also helps to do the xp glitch while there. Then go do the Pitt for the weapons and armor. Continue story line for a bit, go do Point Lookout for Ghoul Ecology perk(IMO VERY useful. Then finish up Broken steel. Finally do Mothership Zeta for dat Samurai sword and Epoxy.-- You are worthy in the eyes of the High Elder 00:11, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

I'm assuming that I should download and play Broken Steel first since I'm at the level 20 cap. When I download Broken Steel, do I need to replay the 'end' of the game in order to 'activate' the new storyline ?

My other question is whether I should just download all the DLC at once, and just play the new missions and storylines as I come across them, or whether I should download one by one and play. If I download one by one, what order do you guys think I should I download the new episodes.

Personally I think I made a mistake by downloading them one by one. They seemed too short and sweet. Although I do believe that if I had downloaded them all at the same time it would have seemed more like there were a lot of things I could still do at the end that would give me achievements.

Definitely Broken Steel First. As for the rest, if you want powerful items to make the game in general/the other DLCs easy, get O:A and MZ first. The Pitt and PL are great too, but they don't have as good items.

It depends on what your goal is. And as stated earlier I would download them all at once, if that is an option. If you are looking for playing the best to worst (my opinion), I would go with this order:

The only reason to download Broken Steel first is for the cap increase. If you can download two or more than you don't have to play Broken Steel first. Once you download it you get the cap increase upon loading.

I downloaded Broken Steel just before I hit level 20, so I wasn't wasting any XP. I finished that, then downloaded Point Lookout. Then, when the disc with O:A and The Pitt was released, I bought that, and finally downloaded M:Z.

In retrospect, I would have preferred to do O:A first. The Chinese Stealth Armour would have made my uber-sneak character even better, and if I was so inclined the early access to Power Armour would have made a direct combat character easier as well.

Personally I would have Broken Steel, then I would doeither the Pitt or Operation Anchorage, then MZ then Point Lookout. Don't finish the game with the worst DLC please! It leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth with nothing to get rid of it

i would start with broken steel as your level cap moves from 20 to 30 and you can use the other dlc to level all the way to level 30 with ease. there is another thread telling you how to get all level 30 achievements in 5 mins (once your level 28 if you aint choose the here and now perk or level 29 if you have). so yeah defo start with broken steel!!!

I then played from an old save game so I could replay the Purifier. I went inside the airlock and activated the purifier, and........game over !! Back to the credits. Just like when I first completed the game without any DLC.

My understanding was that once you've downloaded Broken Steel you wake up in the Citadel 2 weeks later and can resume playing. So what's going on with my game ? Is there a known bug with this ? I tried the last scene again, this time sending Fawkes in there, and same outcome - game over, back to the credits.

I hated operation Anchorage (squad of soldiers so no sneaking ), loved the pitt (starting from scratch sneak fest ), thought mothership and brotherhood of steel were decent (steel's level increase was an added bonus)

I still have an old save prior to commencing the final purifier run; will all the new Broken Steel and O : A features be available without me needing to complete the purifier ? In which case I'll just have to dive in to them straightaway without "completing" the game I guess.

Your level cap will be set to 30, and the new level perks will be in the game, but to access the missions of broken steel you will have to complete the purifier (alot of it is based around the purified water around the monument).

Past that it really doesn't matter, but I would suggest Operation Anchorage/Mothership Zeta first if you want the best items. O:A in particular has a glitch set of armour that has one of the highest DRs in the game but it's item health is ridiculously high, so you basically will never need to repair it. They both have some good weapons too.

The importance placed on DLC depends largely on what direction you want your character to take. For example, if you want to focus on energy weapons, Point Lookout won't do you much good, but Mothership Zeta is a godsend. On the other hand, if you want to focus on, say, small arms, then Mothership Zeta is almost useless, but Point Lookout and The Pitt will benefit you greatly.

Broken Steel (BS) and Operation: Anchorage (O:A) are essentials, IMHO. You need the former to raise the level cap, and the latter can be started as soon as level 2 for either the power armor or stealth suit (both are overpowered).

Point Lookout (PL) is nice, if only for the Superior Defender (overpowered with auto-fire weapons) and Ghoul Ecology perks: I usually just get those two, return to the Wasteland, and finish the rest of the DLC at my leisure. The weapons in that game are sort of 'meh,' though the lever action rifles are nice. The best reason to go to Point Lookout is for the Haley glitch. I usually start PL right after I finish O:A, get the perks, then come back later. If you don't plan on using auto-fire weapons like assault rifles or gatling guns, and/or plan on using a ghoul mask to get past most ghouls, then this DLC takes last priority.

The Pitt is all about weapons and storyline. If you're a stealthy player, you'll want to get the unique Infiltrator; if you're a melee character, the auto axe series is a surefire winner; if you like energy weapons, you make a beeline for the Metal Blaster. I usually do this one immediately after PL. If you don't plan on using small arms or gatling guns (The Pitt has an ammo press to convert ammo types), then don't bother with this DLC too much. The melee weapons are nice, but the Shishkebob still does a serviceable job, and the Wazer Wifle is always a dependable main for energy weapon users.

Mothership Zeta (MZ) is a treasure trove for energy weapon fanatics; if you plan on using a lot of energy weapons, trounce through this area immediately after O:A to take advantage of the rewards the NPCs give you every few days.

Since its first release in 1997, the Fallout series has remained one of the most popular in all gaming. The games tell a massive story that spans hundreds of years of lore, featuring many epic stories that are both self-contained and part of a greater shared Fallout universe.
