The Java Card Development Kit is a suite of components and tools for designing implementations of Java Card technology and developing applets based on the Java Card API Specifications.
It is available as three independent downloads:

Together, these three downloads provide a complete, stand-alone development environment in which applications written for the Java Card platform can be developed and tested.
For more information on the Java Card Development Kit, refer to the Release Notes and the User Guides.
The Java Card Development Kit Simulator is only designed as an example of the functional behavior of a Java Card runtime.
Always make sure to download the latest Java Card Development Kit Tools for up-to-date security.
For more information on the Java Card Development Kit, refer to the User Guide.

The Java Card Platform Specification provides the basis for cross-platform and cross-vendor applet interoperability. You can download here the latest version of the specification (3.2), as well as the previous versions.

For more information on the Java Card Platform Specification, Version 3.2 please refer to the Release Notes.

To help creators of products based on Java Card technology meet the demand by banks, governments, and other card issues for security evaluations that comply with rigorous, widely accepted standards, the Java Card Protection Profile provides a modular set of security requirements designed specifically for the characteristics of the Java Card platform. It reduces the time and cost for developers of Java Card-based products to complete security evaluations under the Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluation. This work is part of Oracle's Global Initiative on Common Criteria (CC).

A profile defines a set of security requirements for the Java Card Runtime Environment, the Java Card Virtual Machine, the Java Card API Framework, and the on-card Installer components. It provides guidelines to develop a secure Java Card platform and obtain high-level security certifications.

The design strategy behind protection profiles represents a breakthrough in the world of security evaluations, as it specifically accommodates the flexible, modular, and open characteristics of Java Card technology. In Particular, it is intended to complement existing protection profiles available for Java Card technology-based smart cards. .

The Java Card Protection Profile 3.1 is aligned with the Java Card Specifications version 2.2.x, 3.0.x and 3.1.
It has been certified by BSI (Bundesamt fr Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik) to a certification level of CC EAL4 augmented by ALC_DVS.2 and AVA_VAN.5, and can be used to reach certification levels of EAL4+ and above for Java Card products. It relies on CC version 3.1 revision 5.

I did recently update GnuPG (building from source) to be able to use OpenPGP cards v3.4 (no prebuilt options that support 4096 bit RSA keys). Read another poster stating that OpenSC is somewhat incompatible with GNuPG. Since there is a module opensc-pkcs11.so that gets loads with the pkcs11-tools command, would that mean that the openssl engine is getting used with this command?

IT administrators can set up their Windows domain to allow YubiKeys to be used as smart cards for login to connected Windows systems. Use the YubiKey Manager for Windows, which includes both a Graphical User Interface and a Command Line Tool to create PIN Unlock Keys (PUK)s on YubiKey devices for customers that require the use of a PUK.

The YubiKey Smart Card Minidriver enables users and administrators to use the native Windows interface for certificate enrollment, managing the YubiKey smart Card PIN, and smart card authentication on Windows.

NOTE: Use the YubiKey Manager to configure both the SmartCard (PIV) functionality of the YubiKey as well as all other YubiKey applications. With this application you only need to install one configuration software for your YubiKey. Note that the Security Key Series are FIDO devices only, if you want to use a YubiKey as a PIV Smartcard then refer to the other types of YubiKeys available.

It means that you can successfully use any of PC/SC compatible devices like the card readers, USB tokens e.t.c., and you may work with any of ISO-7816 compatible smart cards like the GSM SIM cards, EMV payment cards, identity and cryptographic cards and all other types of processor cards except memory cards.

The memory cards are not supported by the Smart Card ToolSet PRO because the PC/SC Specifications 1.0 does not support the memory cards yet. Please read more about the memory cards support on the PC/SC Workgroup F.A.Q.'s page.

The OpenPGP Card is an ISO/IEC 7816-4/-8 compatible smart card implementation that is integrated with many GnuPG functions.Using this smart card, various cryptographic tasks (encryption, decryption, digital signing/verification, authentication etc.) can be performed.

The cards come in various form factors ranging from the standard size ID-1, over ID-1 with cut-outs for ID-000 (i.e. SIM card size), which together with an USB card reader allows to build a do-it-yourself crypto stick, to the Nitrokey USB security key.

While the 1.x version only supported 1024-bit RSA keys and no certificates, version 2.0 allows for RSA keys up to 4096 bits (requires GnuPG 2.0.18+) and optionally an X.509 card holder certificate for the AUT key on the card. Version 3.0 introduced support for ECC.

OpenPGP Card v1.0 /1.1 is deprecated but should work since OpenSC 0.9.1. Starting with OpenSC 0.12.2, OpenSC supports reading the OpenPGP Card v2.0 too. Since OpenSC 0.13 full write support for OpenPGP Card 2 is supported. Support for OpenPGP Card 3 was introduced later.

pkcs15-init also requires to explicitly remove existing key/object. That's why we have --delete-objects privkey, pubkey --id 3 in the command (though it has no effect to Nitrokey, which does not support deleting key, but support overwriting key).

OpenPGP Cards only implement a small subset of the ISO/IEC 7816-4/-8 standard. Most importantly, they do not use a file system to store the application specific data. Instead the data stored for the application is accessible via Data Objects (DO) only.

After this a reader other than the first reader can be used. Be sure to change the configuration file if your reader setup changes (like more readers are added before the right one) as the numbering at the end of the name changes.

Faster transactions.More affordable operations.More efficient collection. Our transport solution, TapToPay, makes these possible through intelligent transportation systems (ITS) with emphasis on automatic fare collection (AFC). Our systems can cover bus, rail, ferry, road toll, parking, fast-food establishments, and convenience stores.

In March 1979, Michel Hugon from Bull CP8 was the first to design and develop a microprocessor-based card combining a processor and local memory. He invented the computerized smart card.

ISO/IEC 7816 is an international standard for electronic identification cards with contacts, especially smart cards, managed jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Smart cards provide ways to securely identify and authenticate the holder and third parties who want access to the card. For example, a cardholder can use a PIN code or biometric data for authentication.

Smart cards offer more security and confidentiality than other financial information or transaction storage vehicles, making them a perfect solution for e-commerce transactions.
