I get this error message all time: Unable to connect. Please check that you are connected to the Internet and try again. Please reboot your phone if the problem persists. (Please note the image below.) I rebooted my computer multiple times.
I think it's about anbox can't acces to internet. For example, I get this error when I try to use the WebViewer browser tester: Webpage not available. The webpage at could not be loaded because: net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED Same for any other website. Similar happens when I try to set up an email account.
You need to have WhatsApp installed on your phone in order to use it on the desktop as it connects to your phone to access the service. The reason it cannot connect is because you do not have the app installed on your phone.
I do not have a Windows machine, so I have not been able to test anything there. But I ask for Windows version-detection as well, for the sake of my current and future team members (no current team members with Windows).
**EDIT** After reviewing the Homebrew cask package, it seems that the version returned by brew info --cask whatsapp has to be manually updated via a git pull request after a whatsapp update is released. The below method may not be correct just after a whatsapp update. The browser method above will always return the latest version however.
If you download the app but do not install, do a properties on the (details tab) on the exe file as I did, for Windows 64bit, currently it is 0.4.315, probably can do this for the mac version using a mac PC.
After working with FreeChat the application hasn't been updated in a while and it's buggy. The best solution is to open Whatsapp web in Google Chrome. Then go to the 3 dot menu -> Save and Share -> Install Whatsapp Web. This saves the Whatsapp web as an individual application that will have its own dock icon and work exactly as the old Whatsapp. Give it a try, it's a great solution.
It worked for a bit but then it crashed again so I decided to use Opera's Whatsapp sidebar feature since the browser is open anyway. Works a treat and doesn't use as much CPU/resources as the app so depending on the browser you're using, I'd rather go for this option.
It seems that while older versions of WhatsApp can be downloaded and installed, when activated, the program automatically looks for the latest update and there's no way to stop it doing that. The result is the same old message that an upgrade in OS is required and since I'm running a perfectly functional but apparently outdated Mac mid 20212 MacBook Air with Catalina, there is no other option but to use the web version of WhatsApp. Sigh.
What I noticed though is, that when the desktop version crashed my phone still tried to connect to the macbook in terms of linked devices and I ended up having 4 connections from the same macbook pro so keep an eye out...
I have automatic updates and check for updates unticked in my macbook pro / Big Sur 2013. I've downloaded an older version of WhatsApp - still when i try to start the app it checks for updates and won't load.
Had the same problem. The only versin that worked for me is 2.2353.64 which I was able to recover using Time Machine. But this really sucks, every time that WhatsApp releases an update, this happens. I'm using WhatsApp web instead and using the feature "Download App" from Chrome which allow me to have the WhatsApp web as an independent window and right now it works better than the official desktop app for Catalina. I fact, now I can use the play pause button for my music which the desktop app seems to damage once is open.
I still got WhatsApp Desktop version 2.2353.64 my operating system supports current WhatsApp but I still use this app and it works perfect without any issues. Idk if I can share the file here but I would be glad to help you.
Your suggestion seemed quite logical, so I followed the directions you posted and disabled the automatic update option. I even tried consecutively loading three older versions but each time the prompt would not allow any alternatives other than to update before proceeding with opening WhatsApp.
On one of my previous guide I have explained you guys how to install and setup whatsapp on pc by using an android emulator called youwave. That article seems very popular and read by more than 500 people daily on this blog.
However there is one constrain on that method. It is that youwave is a commercial software and the free version only lasts for 7 days as I explained there. But you could always uninstall and reinstall after 7 days to get it working for 7 days more.
Next steps are the same which you would do to setup whatsapp on your mobile phone or tab. Complete the verification by giving your mobile phone number which can receive an sms. And enter the number to activate whatsapp and enjoy ?
I had the same problem over and over.
The solution is to uninstall Youwave, install it as administrator (I also used win xp compatibility), and also start up youwave as administrator. This did the trick for me
Ruchira, nice job, but i think you need to clear about the instruction on how to run the externally downloaded whatsapp.apk file in youwave, i wasted lot of time before i go to file menu in youwave and open the file. (i was too engrossed looking for the file manager within the android simulation!!!!)
When i click on the call me button , it says you recently connected and that i have to wait for 2 days or so. its totally random and i have no clue what to do now because i have previously used this method successfully and i am not sure whats going wrong this time around.
I am trying to use youwave for Android the Whatsapp on my pc, i downloaded it succesfully but the problem is it asked for voice verification and that i will get a call but i have been waiting for more than 5hours no call, i clicked the tab again and they said i am connected but i have to wait an extra 5hours for the call, i did wait but still no call with the code,i waited extra hours and hit the tab and yet still no call, so i re-installed it again and changed the number it still did not call with the verification code. can you help me out? It will be much appreciated. Thanks

For beginners, WhatsApp Web lets you access all the chats from your phone, on your PC or laptop. You can even compose and reply to messages. You can set it up to send notifications to your browser. It even lets you attach photos and files like you can on your phone. You can do almost pretty much everything, except for making audio and video calls. There are two ways of using WhatsApp Web.
One of the simplest ways you can access your WhatsApp on your PC is by downloading and installing the desktop software. It's available for free at for Windows and Mac OS X. Make sure that your WhatsApp client is updated on your mobile phone. The following steps are needed to connect WhatsApp Web to your phone.
The camera on the phone should be enabled by now. Point the phone at the QR code shown and scan the code. Once this is done, your phone and your PC will be connected to your WhatsApp account. You can browse through open conversations and your contact list using the interface. You can now conveniently communicate on WhatsApp without having to look at your phone. Tell us what you thought about this feature and share your tips on how to use WhatsApp better.
