After the successful acquisition of the iFlix - VOD (Video On Demand) platform, Tencent officially launched WeTV App and wiped out all obstacles, creating the premise for market domination. WeTV was launched in Thailand and Vietnam in May and June 2020 with the main segmentation being the young generation and the goal to bring a high-quality video experience to users. At first, WeTV only provided original content in Chinese with Thai subtitles. Then they developed & improved with many other languages such as Vietnamese, Indonesian to meet entertainment needs of Southeast Asian audiences.

According to the App Annie report and some reputable sources, until April 2020, iflix still achieved an impressive index with more than 24 million users in Southeast Asia, mainly Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Thus, this bold move from Tencent has become more spectacular than ever. The fact shows that Tencent's WeTV entered the Thai and Vietnamese market without facing any trouble in finding users. Also, the iflix acquisition makes Tencent easier to understand the audiences of the VOD Apps. Thereby, they notice what content should be provided for each audience based on age, region, gender, etc.

When working with the WeTV Vietnam Marketing team, I personally realize that WeTV has many outstanding strengths that Entertainment App Developers, especially in the VOD & Streaming segment, should learn from them.

If you are a fan of Asian dramas, entertainment programs, Game Shows or famous Chinese artists such as Yang Mi, Tieu Chien, WeTV definitely can satisfy you with the maximum amounts of high-quality contents. WeTV app also provides users with content classified by category. For example, when accessing the app interface, mobile users can easily find main folders such as TV series, entertainment programs, movies, etc. From there, viewers can select chapters according to their needs and preferences rapidly.

Moreover, WeTV's age-optimized content mechanism is also one of the factors that I personally feel overwhelmed. In other words, Tencent Video Developer can understand each individual user's movie and film preferences through the app and the user's content search history. That is one of the great strides compared to other apps & platforms available not only in Vietnam but also in Southeast Asia (except Netflix - Application providing movie content from US).

Videos with HD+, Full HD, 4K quality help users have a better experience while enjoying their favorite movies or shows. WeTV app provides a wide range of movie quality for users to experience entertainment contents in a smoother and more satisfying way. In particular, in the upcoming time, Tencent Video developer has taken steps to integrate WeTV into a basic App available on SmartTV of Sony, Samsung, LG and major electronics distribution brands in Southeast Asia to expand on operating systems not only Mobile but also Tablet, iPad and SmartTV.

Unlike iflix, WeTV has completely handled the delayed update of content issues. Especially for the TV series, WeTV app is really serious and updated almost every day or even by hours to serve viewers. Moreover, a special feature of WeTV app is that users can watch short videos, interesting moments from idols, celebrities. In addition, you can save your favorite movies and shows to the watch list later or via suggestions from search history easily.

Incidentally, the first thing that needs to be improved is WeTV's strong point. With HD+ or higher video resolutions, WeTV makes many mid-range mobile devices overheat and drain the battery quickly. This is one of the things that most users complain about when experiencing not only WeTV, but also the same situation happens with high configuration games or watching movies with mobile web browsers.

Secondly, the video download feature is only for limited users who sign up and activate a Premium account. For a large portion of Vietnamese users in particular and Southeast Asia in general, paying for online video content seems uncomfortable. This is also one of the challenges that has a significant impact on not only WeTV's revenue but also other VOD entertainment apps.

Finally, currently WeTV still has some issues about copyrights licenses in some Asian countries. However, those regions can be a great potential for Tencent Video Developer's conquest of Asia in the near future. Therefore, WeTV App needs to develop and improve it as soon as possible to meet & provide the best service to Asian users.

In short, WeTV, although only released in mid-2020, yet now having a positive rating from both users and app developers. The service that WeTV provides so far is quite impressive among OTT (Over The Top) apps recently. Tencent's acquisition of iFlix helps the WeTV team easily gain a competitive edge in the entertainment field by holding the copyrights of hundreds of thousands of shows, as well as TV series. In the near future, WeTV app promises not only to conquer the No. 1 position in Southeast Asia or Asia but maybe in a global scale. Meanwhile, mobile users' demand for entertainment apps is increasing, especially during this period. Therefore, I believe WeTV will be one of the next generation on the billion-dollar apps list in the future.

WeTV is an Asian streaming service that sees the creation of premier video-on-demand (VOD) and provides over-the-top (OTT) local content. The streaming service provides content from around the region, including selected Chinese, Indonesian, Korean, Malaysian, Philippines and Thai series and movies. Operating as a freemium service, viewers can access some content without the need for a paid subscription and premium content at a small fee. The basic features also include free subtitles. WeTV is available on the browser at wetv.vip, or on the WeTV application that can be downloaded from the Apple Store for iOS users and the Google Play Store for Android users.

I've been reporting on the missing scenes from YouTube's version of Cooking Crush [first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh], but for the finale, surprisingly, most of the scenes remained in the edited version.

After Ten's hypocritical father finishes talkin' out the side of his neck, Prem shares his concerns with his grandmother. She scolds him for not telling her about his sister's tuition and taking Ten's money, but she offers to give Prem the money to pay Ten's hypocritical father back. However, Prem wants to win the competition, so he can know he did it on his own.

His father is heated that Ten is still seeing Prem, to which Ten argues back that he has done everything his father has asked including going to distant places and bringing up his grades, so he will continue to see Prem because he wants to. The father tells Ten his need to win against his father is troubling and when he gets into actual trouble, not to run to him.

Y'all, this fight was gooood! Ten tells his dad this isn't about winning against his dad or even about his dad. This is about TEN, and he likes Prem. He ends the conversation with telling his father that there will be no trouble. Period.

Well, we know trouble happens. Dy and Samsee are on the couch watching the video and reading comments. Dy wants to respond with anger to all the comments, but Samsee tells him no since it would only cause more issues.

Ten goes to apologize to Chang Ma, but we see the conversation Chang Ma has with Prem in the unedited version (with Ten keeping a watchful eye on Chang Ma, as he should!). Chang Ma tells Prem the reason he liked Prem was because Prem is determined, but this competition might be too much. He finishes with telling Prem he'll respect whatever decision he makes.

And this was in both versions, but after seeing Chang Ma's speech, which was good, it makes it even more obvious why Ten is superior. Chang Ma framed the conversation to be about what he saw in Prem but that this might be overwhelming, yet Ten made the conversation specifically about Prem and what is within Prem, which is why he knew Prem could succeed. It's small and it could be just be the translation, but it's important that Chang Ma spoke about how he views Prem, while Ten reminded Prem who Prem is.

After speaking to Samsee, Metha shows up at Ten's and questions if he is dating Prem since that is what Samsee stated. Ten tells Metha he isn't officially dating Prem, and Metha questions "WHY NOT?" so Ten reminds him that when Metha had a sweetheart, he lost focus, and didn't pass the exam to get into med school, so he doesn't want Prem to lose his concentration for his cooking competition like Metha lost his and messed up his future.
