to Cinnamon Bay
Hi!

Just a couple of things:

I'm planning on traveling solo... is that a wise idea??

If I fly into St. Thomas, how long will it take (via taxi) to get to
Cinnamon Bay?

Also, does St. John take US dollars?

Thanks!

It is perfectly safe to travel alone.  I have done it accept I do have friends I meet up with in the cottage.  Cinnamon Bay is safe. When you fly to St. Thomas, take a cab to Red Hook (they will be waiting for you at the airport) Then take the ferry to Cinnamon Bay and then a cab to Cinnamon Bay, they also will be waiting for you when you get off the ferry.  It is very easy.  Of course since it is a us island they all speak English and use US dollars and US stamps.  The whole process from St. Thomas takes about an hour.

traveling solo to cinnamon bay using normal precautions is safe,
easily accessible and rewarding. spachik77 wrote in the thread titled
"solo campers" - "Every year I've been there, I always see and meet
solo campers. I would just take the normal precautions you would take
traveling solo anywhere."

regarding travel times and strategies, refer to the link below. this
list the most current ferry schedules and fees for ferry and taxi
rides. it is a very pleasant trip to and from st john. i would
recommend that you consider taking a ferry out of charlotte amalie and
return to st thomas from st john through red hook. that will get you
to st john quickest and give you the opportunity to tour st thomas on
the way back to the airport. in general terms i would expect that it
takes 2-3 hours to travel from the airport to cinnamon bay factoring
in airport taxi to ferry, ferry to st john, taxi to cinnamon bay. and
that would be without any side departures.

your last question regarding currency, this is a U.S. territory and
U.S. currency is the standard exchange.

i see you are planning to travel soon so if you have additional
questions i will try to help you get answers quickly. hope this helps.
let me know if i can further assist.

travel well!

I travel every year to St. John and our plane lands in St. Thomas a little before 11am and we are to Cinnamon Bay about 12:15 pm  It has never taken us 2--3 hours to get to cinnamon bay.  The most an hour 1/2.  And most of the times we stop to get a few things.  Of course we don't go in the summer when it is extremely not.  We wait for the cold weather in New York so Jan Feb is the best time to go.

i am not very good about carrying a watch, i tell time by the sun. i
suppose it just seems like it takes longer to get there because of
anticipation and my excitement to get to cinnamon bay!

how about a follow-up report after your visit leapoffaith? let us
know what your timing was like, and i am always happy to post photos
to the photo album if you would like to submit any pictures from your
trip.

happy trails!

Hi there,

Cinnamon Bay is safe and the people both staff & guests tend to be
friendly and helpful (no resort snobs here). I would follow Beach Bum
Brad's advice and take the ferry out Charlotte Amalie. It's a longer
ferry ride but a shorter cab ride and you can explore the town a bit
if you have time.

However if you are worried about being alone I will be in Cinnamon
Bay from July 10 to the 15th with friends and family. Just leave me a
note on the bulletin board and we'll catch up.
Be glad to show you around

I am coming from LI, NY so traveling with food, luggage, etc does seem like a real long trek for me too but it is worth the trip in the end to be in paradise.  Have a great time and don't forget to go to Skinny Legs to eat the Best Burgers in Town.  Even though I don't eat meat they have a fairly good menu and of course anykind of Beer.  Let me know how your trip went.  Have fun and Be well.

I am SO taken aback by all of the responses. Thank you all so much. I
feel so wonderful about the possibility of traveling to Cinnamon Bay,
and I couldn't have felt that way if it wasn't for all of you taking
the time to send me notes and great, priceless information and tips. I
feel like I would have already had family there even though I was
planning on traveling alone!

Unfortunately, my plans have fallen through for this weekend :( --
BUT, now that I have found the treasure of CB, I know I WILL visit in
the future.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you all again!

God bless,
Leahpoffaith
