I would also bring bath towels and snacks..the restaurant is limited
on Hours and you have to let them know ( in the store ) ahead of time
and what time. The store is fairly well stocked but we usually stop in
Cruz Bay and pick up supplies..there will be taxis available to get
you back and forth if you are not getting a jeep...we have been on a
baresite,,and a cottage as well. Most of the baresites have tarps
incase of rain as it rains alot in May, but to be on the safe side we
brought one with us. also take something to store your food in while
you are away..Site 56 is great...we loved it, we also took battery
operated fans...Have fun...wish it were me...:)

Hi, I know you will love Cinnamon Bay & St. John. As for camping;
with a baresite you'll need to bring everything: yes the tent &
bedding, a small camp stove,a cooler, a good strong flashlight and
or/ lamp. It gets really dark fast in the tropics; you'll need light
to find you way to the bathhouse, your tent etc.The amount of bugs
will depend on the amount of rain prior to your arrival. But be
prepared for the worst, especially after sunset. It is the tropics.
Also be prepared for critters who will steal anything edible you leave
out. They may also eat a hole through your tent to get at stuff inside
(that happened to me once).
T'ree Lizard Lounge serves ok food, but not always open during the
slow season. The camp store leaves much to be desired and no fruit.
You're better off picking up some provisions at the Dolphin or
Starfish markets in Cruz Bay.
You may be better off renting one of the tents, since they come with
all the equipment needed. (except the flashlight)
Enjoy!

You can charge up your devices in the restaurant and you won't be alone. Look for the multiple outlet strips on the post by the "bar". You can also leave them at the front desk for charging which we have done when we didn't want to stay around and watch them charge.

Thanks so much for your generous replies. I don't need much. I figure a tent, bedding, flashlight, fan etc will fit in a duffel. I've been turning over the food situation for four days and just don't see paying Delta $70 to bring in a cooler and haul it back. As long as there's water I may stick to brining snacks and buying stuff in town for breakfast and lunch. I can eat out at night and not worry about grilling and cooking at all.

Is it complete heresy if I ask how everyone charges up their devices on a bare site and whether there's any wifi for the occasional email check?

I've no intention of renting a jeep but wonder if anyone has experience with a scooter? Prices?

Thanks again.

I recommend against scooters.  You'll see on your taxi ride to CBC - not a safe place to ride a scooter.
There are electrical outlets in the bathrooms.  I left my phone charging unattended.  If you bring an extension cord, you can sit outside admiring the view while your device charges.

Are you serious??? This statement is really freaking me out! I was hoping that having my own tent will keep the bugs/critters out of my tent to some extent. Never thought they would be biting thru my tent! I've actually did a tour of the army tents and cottages and didn't care for it too much. How many times have this happened to anyone?? Oh, Geez! :(

I just got back from a week at CBC and the only problem with critters was the birds and only if food was left out - including garbage - even though there was one day of off and on rain we never had a problem with bugs
