Hi
1. We’ve seen plenty of small children in the cottages.
2. As suggested above, being near the bathroom might be a good
idea.
3. We have generally only eaten at the ‘Tre Lizard at breakfast
time, where there is a pretty
standardized fare - e.g. scrambled eggs for us. Probably breakfast in
cottage or tent might be better for the child. But then we always
have a vehicle - gives us a chance to see the rest of the island, shop
when we please, eat in town, etc. It’s not a good idea to depend on
taxi service (except into Cruz Bay and back again) and the cost piles
up. I theory you can use public transportation, but in practice don’t
count on it.
4. Certainly 6 nights is not too long - but there is no mention
of what time of year you’ll be there - it can get quite hot
from May on. This is a good reason for using a cottage,
since they have fans and are totally screened in.
5. There is very little noise pollution at the campground, either
in the tents or the cottages. The only problem you might have is with
neighbors in a cottage unit not respecting your personal space (as
happened last year in the beach-side cottage (#10). In general,
campers generally have much better manners than the general population
(in MHO).
6. The advantage of the beach-front cottage is that you are about
twenty-five steps (most of them in the sand) before you’re in the
water. As to disadvantages - it’s a long haul with your baggage in
the cart from the parking lot, and going back is uphill, and people
who stay there tend to return next year - often registering for next
year when they depart. We tried to do that when we left in very early
June, and couldn’t get more than three days in a row.
The bathrooms are about midway along the row of cottages and not that
hard to get to from any of them - they are lit up at night but don’t
forget a flashlight because darkness falls with a crash in the
tropics. The early cottages are almost as close to the bath house
that serves the beach - but its facilities are just the same. (This
is the bath house you would use in the tent area. And the showers are
cold showers - principally used to wash the salt off after swimming,
Carry soap and shampoo that works in cold water.
The tree frog chorus is better in the tents and there is more
privacy. You will need ice though - the cottages have a small fridge
and a propane stove (rather than a camp stove). Suggest you bring
some decent ice cube trays - theirs are pretty wimpy. It’s also a
long haul for ice from the store. The trails near the tents get quite
wet/muddy in the rain, and there almost always is some (but the same
thing is true in the Rockies!) The tree frog chorus was better this
year because there was more recent rain fall, but I’m sure the chorus
was better in the tent area.
A really good bug spray is top priority (especially if you go out to
the beach at night).
In general, bare sites are the first to fill up (but there aren’t
many of them), with cottages second and tents last.
You can’t miss at Cinnamon Bay!
Peace
