How can I install the weather applet manually? I always get an error message when I try to install it via the "gadgets" like "File or directory not found" :(

In Cinnamon 1.8, just unzip the download in your applets directory:
~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/weather@mockturtl/
The "file not found" error is probably from an old cache. Click the
"Refresh list" button to get the latest (`cinnamon-settings applets` ->
"Get more online" tab).
