WHEN I WAS A CHILD

ABOUT THE PLAY
Objects provide an important method of communication in theatre. This
performance is a marriage of imagery, mime and body movement in
association with real day to day objects intended to create a new tool
of communication for theatre people and to encourage the development of
a new theatrical experience.
When I first conceived the idea of this performance I noticing the
experiments and happenings around me. This type of communication is
just an exploration of the objects as well a new and fresh way of
expression in theatrical environment. Through this process a performer
learns to place his/her focus on the material they are working with.
I found it very interesting and extraordinary; the actors receive
information from objects, which means they must be very attentive. This
focused state of being, then becomes accessible to the actors in other
aspects of the performance such as voice, movements, characterization
etc.
All objects have energy, their own story to tell. Therefore actors find
this process interesting and learn a different way of handling objects
while they worked. I used mime in some scenes because it helps actors
to balance the presence and absence of the object .Notion and idea
making up the scene are also, communicated by actors bodies.

A graduate in music with a one year Diploma in Dramatics from Rajasthan
University, Rajendra Panchal has completed his graduation in Design &
Direction from NSD.
He has directed several plays such as Aala Afsar , Thag-Mahathag ,
Mrityubhoj , Premchand Ki Kahaniyan , Andher Nagri amongst others .
Panchal has also worked extensively with tribals,prisoners, orphans,
deaf & mute persons and juvenile prisoners during theatre workshops .

’09 onwards, between 11.00 am & 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm & 4.00 pm. The
cards will be available on a first come first served basis and, if
available, one hour before the show at the auditorium.
