You are cordially invited to the first Mountain Film Festival of Dehradun. We have included feature films, documentaries and animation shorts that tell a story about the mountains in India or abroad.
The entry is free for all screenings. Following is the schedule:
Day 1 (23 June, 2023) 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm
- 2:30 pm Welcome and introduction to the festival by Yousuf Saeed
- 2:40 pm Dayen ya Bayen, dir: Bela Negi (India), 112 mins. A drama film about the life of Ramesh Majila, a schoolteacher in a remote hilly village, who won a luxury car that takes him on an unexpected journey.
Tea break
- 5 pm Kesar Saga, dir: Iffat Fatima (India), 75 mins.
Kesar Saga is about an ancient Tibetan storytelling tradition called Kesar in the Himalayan region of Ladakh.
Day 2 (24 June, 2023) 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm
- 2:30 pm Pinty ka Sabun, dir: Pramod Pathak (India) 85 mins. Based on a novel of the same name, Pinti ka Sabun is a story about a 12-years old carefree boy Lalit living in an Uttarakhand village, who has never seen soap.
- 3:50 pm Some Thing, dir: Elena Walf (Germany) 7 mins. An animated short film about three giant big mountains that contain oil, gold and fire, and a little mountain who is in possession of some tiny, strange and useless "Some Things".
Tea break
- 4:15 pm Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, dir: Kim Ki-duk (South Korea) 102 mins. A film about a boy raised by a Buddhist monk in an isolated floating temple where the years pass like the seasons, until someone enters in the life of the boy.
Day 3 (25 June, 2023) 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm
- 2:30 pm Bittu, dir: Karishma Dev Dube (India), 17 mins. An Oscar short-listed film about a close friendship between two girls that is eclipsed by an accidental poisoning at school.
- 2:50 pm Kinabuhi, dir: Danny Cooke (Philippines), 14 mins. Film about Filipino Coconut Farmers struggling to survive a way-of-life exploited by industrial agriculture and crippled by disasters like Typhoon Haiyan.
- 3:10 pm An Object at Rest, dir: Seth Boyden (USA), 6 mins. An animated short film about a simple rock facing its greatest adversary: human civilization.
Tea break
- 3:30 pm Hogay hai Peer Parwat Si – The Mountains Agonized, dir: Subrat Kumar Sahu (India), 111 mins. A powerful documentary film on the impacts of hydropower development in the Satluj Valley, capturing visuals of colossal disaster in the Himalayas. The director will be present for a Q&A session after the film.
- Distribution of certificates for participants of Film Appreciation Course.
Organized by Cinemarg (a local cinema lovers’ group), Dr. Dwijen Sen Memorial Kala Kendra, Dehradun and the Doon Library and Research Centre.
