About Telangana state festival 'Bathukamma', little background about CincyTelanganites and GCTA organizations:
THE BATHUKAMMA is a Telangana state floral festival and it's been a Telangana
symbol for natural beauty, femininity and grace. It's one of the most unique
festivals of Telangana and one celebrated mainly by the women of this region.
There is a saying in Telangana that if you are born as a girl, you have to play
Bathukamma. That's the beauty of Bathukamma festival. It’s celebrated during Navarathri
and it honours the`life-giver’ Bathukamma, with women seeking her
blessings for prosperity and a good year. Natural colors mainly with turmeric,
different type of flowers and water are all intrinsic to the festival; and the
goddess herself is not one rooted in a shrine but made of flowers that signify
both life and eternity in their colors as well as impermanence. For, the
goddess is `created’ each year, and immersed duly on the 10th day of the
festival in local water bodies. Most recently, our Telangana State government
recognized it with a special importance to our festival to uplift it as the
root, essence and beauty of Telangana culture.
CincyTelanganites played a key role as a forefront Telangana NRI organization for Telangana statehood movement from Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton areas to support 4 crore people and half century old statehood demand. We conducted various T-NRI community meetings with an importance of T state formation using meet and greet events with distinguished Telangana guests like artists, educationalists, intellectuals and politicians from different political parties such as Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS), T-Congress and T-Bharathiya Jantha Party. We also volunteered to support Telangana statehood movement using social networking platforms via Facebook, Twitter websites and reached all Telanganaites across the globe via e-mail group communications. Also, we promoted social events such as vanabhojanalu with telangana artists and summer picnic events tried to bring all telangana families under one roof to show solidarity for Telangana cause.
GCTA is Telangana’s non-political, cultural, charitable and social organization
that promotes Telangana history, identity and culture from Greater
Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton areas.
