Hey Chris,

A while back, we talked about a group health care policy for Coworks
members. You had a couple opinions, and you said your current provider
had something something?

Who do you use? What was your take on it again? I've been thinking
lately this would be a huge attraction for members, not to mention
beneficial of course.

I have an Anthem individual HSA plan for my family that is quite
reasonable. After talking with some friends - I actually get better
rates then they do through their employers.

My only word of caution, is to look into the new regulations when
offering health plans through a company - it might mean that you have
to file extra paperwork in the coming year.

It's the same thing Carin mentioned - a high deductible HSA plan. We could contact them since they're across the street.

From what I understand, HSAs are separate from a group policy. Is
there such a thing as a group HSA?

What I have in mind is a group policy like you might get in a company.
I have heard of coworking spaces acquiring group policies, but it
depends greatly on the state and the provider. Some providers are
willing to insure just any group of individuals. Some providiers will
only insure companies and their W-2's. Some providers will insure
special classes of groups, like unions.

You can get the high-deductable insurance plan as a small group, then the participants set up their own HSA accounts. But you need to be in a high-deductible qualifying plan to get an HSA acct.

Great idea! Up until I got married a few months ago, I also had Anthem individual insurance.

BUT I got it through an independent insurance agent. He knew all the regulations, compared plans for me and even dealt with problems I had with Anthem. Once, when it started to get really expensive, he actually re-enrolled me in the same plan and saved me tons of money.

So I wonder if an independent agent might be willing to help you set something like this up. They work on commission from the insurance company, so it  never cost me anything to use an agent vs. dealing with Anthem bureaucracy solo.

Just a thought. (Though I'm out for the actual insurance buy-in.)

Catherine,

Know of any specific providers that will insure a group of individuals
at a discount?

Michelle,

Can you send me the info on the agent you used? That is, if you'd
recommend him, and if you remember. You can send it to me offline if
you wish.

I agree, I think we need more of an insurance broker that can
recommend/work with carriers, rather than start calling all the
carriers individually.

I think the agency I work with does. Call Kasey Hare at Saxon Financial:

She's been extremely helpful for me!
