Hey meshheads,

I just got my amateur radio technician ticket, KE8PRB, and in my studies I happened across Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network:

Like other mesh things, it's basically a flashed WAP, but in this case it's Ubiquiti outdoor units, and with a ham license you have different power limitations.

Like all things amateur radio, it's not legit unless there's a youtube video:

what do you all think?

Looks pretty cool to me.

Man, I just looked up my ham license and I'm still good for like 14 more months!  I'm pretty sure the class and test where I got mine were at the class you arranged back in like 2011.

I wonder if there are any local ham clubs that are doing this already.

Good to hear from you Dave,

Other projects that are interesting, though not necessarily mesh networking, are https://www.winlink.org/ for radio email, Packet radio BBS for 80's style communications over VHF and UHF radio, and APRS for GPS style location and messaging over the radio.

Ham radio is a big deal with prepper types, but I would like to put some of my skill to work supporting the protest movement, since I think your typical ham radio type probably isn't into BLM.
