I read this article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20072845-264/google-building-skype-alike-software-into-chrome/

It talks about Skype like capabilities being built directly into webkit. WebRTC is the core technology and is being open sourced and will be integrated into other browsers such as Firefox and Opera. So I'm assuming anybody can then easily make a video chat web app. Does anybody know about this technology? I would be interested in learning more. I've been wanting an open standard for video conferencing for a long time. Not sure if this will do that but it seems like something in the right direction.

I saw that as well. Definitely a technology we'll have to dig into when it's available.
