Hello! I have had Celiac for decades;diagnosed 20 yrs ago after almost dying. Still suffering from major autoimmune issues as well as bloating, reactions to everything I eat, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I'm absolutely 100% gluten free, rarely eat out, dairy free, soy free, non GMO and frequently organic. Been researching all that time, & I'm positive that I have severe intestinal permeability (leaky gut). Tried numerous probiotics, digestive enzymes, other supplements that are recommended for that, and I'm still a mess. Does anyone know of any Dr's that specialize in this, or know anything? Trying to find a conventional Dr because of insurance, but would even be willing to go to an alternative medicine doctor or functional medicine doctor if I can't find anybody else. Thank you so much!!

I love my functional medicine doctor. Her name is Dr. Kristen Harding. She doesn't take insurance, but I file it myself and my insurance (United Healthcare) covers a significant portion. She's done wonders for my gut among other issues.

Hi Lisa,

I too was diagnosed decades ago, almost 30 years & suffer a plethora of autoimmune conditions, food sensitivities & allergies. I started seeing Dr. Dorothy Shaffer a year ago. She is a regular MD with a ton of knowledge & includes a holistic approach. I highly recommend her. Her practice is Full Spectrum Health she accepts insurance, but also charges a yearly fee that can be paid on a monthly basis.

I have also gone the route of working with a nutritionist a few years back. He too is very good, but does not take insurance. He treated me for leaky gut & had me on an elimination diet, which did help me further understand & work with my food sensitivities. His name is Dr. Phil Dinn I saw him at Mt. Lookout Chiropractic & I believe he has another office, may be in Northern Kentucky. He is very knowledgeable & actually diagnosed my Hemochromatosis, which I was screened for & never identified by a former physician.

I have one other suggestion. My daughter connected me with a vitality coach who lives in OKC & has clients outside the state. I am attaching a link for her website for you to checkout:

Best of Luck to you,

Pretty sure I had active Celiacs for maybe 20 years, but was only diagnosed almost 6 years ago…. I   was in your shape as far as definitely having  leaky gut and found that only following ( strictly!)  the gluten free diet did NOT do away with my problems…..after almost a year of strict adherence to diet, but still having all the symptoms, I  discovered Dr Nathan Morris  in Oxford. He really helped me  until after 3 years of eating the  gluten free diet and using the supplements he suggested,. a followup endoscopy performed by Dr South, a G I doctor, finally showed my intestines had healed! I do sing Dr.Morris’  praises!! He is called a Functional Medicine dr  - has MD and is very easy to work with.

I love all the replies from the group and seeing how everyone is really advocating for good thorough help.

Other options for functional integrative care include the Alliance of Integrative Medicine in Kenwood , Laurie Nandyal MD from UC's Integrative Health as well as Dr. David Boyton who is a chiropractor in Blue Ash who is skilled in functional medicine.  All of these people take insurance but be aware that if they need to run Functional lab tests, these may or may not be covered by insurance.

Among things to consider might be getting a good food sensitivity test.  I recommend MRT Mediator Release Testing.  Many practitioners use IgG testing which is not great testing for food sensitivities. I would be happy to explain the differences by phone.  If you have any questions about this or anything else, feel free to call me.  I am a registered dietitian with a certification in food sensitivities and functional integrative nutrition.   I see a large number of patient's with gastrointestinal issues and would be happy to answer any of your questions.
