I was wondering if anybody else has suffered from Erythema nodosum?  It causes painful red bumps that will eventually look like bruises. It also has done this to my foot.  Thanks.

I had something similar looking couple years ago. I went to a rheumatologist. She put me on high dosages of prednisone. The cause was from my ulcerative colitis. My immune system was screwed up from the UC. They couldn’t get it under control and I ended up having my colon removed because of the disease. What are the doctor’s telling you?

They told me that by process of elimination that it is Erythema nodosum.  It is also one of those things that I got because of celiac disease compromised my immune system.  I have been to the ER and family doctor and had a lot of test run.  I was also told it is not very common.  I am also on prednisone and it will take 4 to 6 weeks to recover.  My foot is still purple but seems to be improving everyday and I still have what looks like bruises on my other leg from this as well.

Have they suggested any of the meds for auto immune diseases? I’m not a fan of taking them because once you start you’re on them for life. I have a friend who takes Humira for her UC and it’s now in remission. My symptoms were joint swelling. Then one morning my ankle swelled and was on fire. The  fever was so bad my skin peeled. I couldn’t walk or wear shoes. I had to keep it on ice until I got on the prednisone. After that got under control, I developed pyoderma which is skin ulcers. Very painful! Since my Ileostomy I haven’t had any more symptoms or swellings. Stupid auto immune diseases stink!

Good luck!

No they did not suggest any meds.  I do not like taking them either.  I am finally recovering from this Erythema nodosum and it was hard.  I could hardly walk for 3 weeks and I have a 12 year old to watch out for.  It was debilitating.  The prednisone seemed to work for me.  I took my last one yesterday so I hope the discoloration finally goes away.  Yes they do stink!!
