I'm trying to play a video game with my friends that requires a local wifi network that allows UDP broadcasts. The dorm wifi doesn't allow UDP broadcasts, so I'm trying to set up my laptop as a hotspot. Windows 10 by default allows you to share an internet connection over wifi, but you must have an internet connection to do so. Sharing the wifi connection results in a lot of problems such as constant disconnects, and I don't have access to an ethernet connection to share. Is there some way I can set up a wifi network without actually sharing an internet connection?

4.) After that run the command, netsh wlan start hostednetwork, to start the "Hotspot" broadcast. Right now you can play without internet connection after all devices connect. Remember to check IP addresses of all your individual devices in order to connect to each other. The hotspot's IP Address usually is "192.168.137.1".

If you are still using windows 10, then just open "Microsoft Store" from Start Menu. Find the app named as "Hotspot Lite" from there and just install it. Now open the app and configure the settings if you want or not. Done!!

I already found some hundred tutorials how to create a new hotspot using netsh, but as I understand it this would create another, different hotspot.Instead I want to use the already configured one. Or does Windows 10 use the same and creates a new hotspot every time but in between only remembers the settings?

So it seems that MS is using a very different technique for the built-in hotspot than the netsh variant. Which brings me again to the question: how can I automate (by script) the enabling/disabling of this hotspot?

I think the only solution at the moment is to setup an autohotkey script to click the button on start up. Windows +A, Shift Tab, down arrow, etc... I need this for a headless PC to allow wifi remote desktop.

While 'patiently' waiting for my Quest 3, I decided to check out my Wi-Fi options. I don't have a Wi-Fi 6e capable access point, but my motherboard has a MediaTek/AMD RZ616 wireless card that supports Wi-Fi 6e (I knew the Quest 3 would support Wi-Fi 6e when I bought this motherboard) so I want to use the hotspot feature in Windows 11 to connect directly to my PC (which is itself connected via ethernet).

This isn't a request for help, I'm just documenting how I made my new USB wifi adapter work with Mobile hotspot on Windows 10. I mostly use these devices to create a hotspot at work for my phones to connect to the cabled Ethernet connection, and a full fledged router isn't an option, so I need the mobile hotspot function to work properly. However, during both my previous install (TL-WN725N) and this one (T4U v3) I encountered several hurdles before I could make them work. Perhaps others have the same problems and these points might help them troubleshoot.

Basically, I was upgrading from the TL-WN725N to the T4U v3, uninstalled the old drivers and installed the new ones. WiFi started up fine, but the hotspot didn't work. I also tried to revert back to the TL-WN725N in one of the attempts to figure out what was wrong.

I have created numerous hotspots with other usb adapters. Windows 7 has a built in functionality of allowing wireless network adapters to create hotspots to share internet. This can be done directly through the windows elevated command prompt, or using a 3rd party software that has a nicer UI such as Connectify.

I am not talking about Adhoc mode. I am talking about creating hotspot in "infrastructure" mode. This is done by utilizing the built in API in windows 7, 8 and 10 to create a hotspot. The Last 4 (and only versions) of the netgear 6210 drivers, do no support it. For such a basic funtionality of a wifi adapter to be able to broadcast a wifi signal, it is apalling of why it is not supported.

When I finally got the products, they suspiciously came in two brown boxes, no official packaging, just pink bubble wrapping in each of them. I tried the products briefly at the time, and they connected to wifi fine, so I didn't think too much about it. A few weeks later, after setting up the internet at my place, I wanted to use different computers around the home as mini hotspots to expand the range of my wifi network. Of course, with the issues that these adapters had, it was impossible. Their current driver (as well as 3 drivers before it) did not support creating a hotspot, and would just fail to do so each time. Searching day after day for any online resource to fix this issue come as a waste of time.

My personal hotspot stopped working altogether immediately following the 9.3.1 update on my 6s+. It does not appear to have any correlation to Wondows 10. i use my hotspot daily for business, and it worked fine (although often finicky) on Windows 10 with iOS 9.3. It often required turning the hotspot on / off a few times before Windows would recognize it. I get nothing now when I enable it. No blue banner at the top, and certainly no available connection with Windows 10. It looks like Apple botched something again. I was curious, were you able to get yours working?

THANK YOU! Although I couldn't read the text in the image, your one sentence instruction, "Try to manually update iPhone driver in Device Manager while tethering turned on. Just specify location C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\NetDrivers ," told me everything I needed to know...and I had already tried for TWO days to get my personal hotspot work with my new computer at work!! Thank you, again!

We can get the computer to connect via the WiFi hotspot, but my mother-in-law is not technologically literate, and even I can't get Apple's WiFi hotspot to work/connect consistently on any device without being cajoled.

Do any of the programs support multiple adaptors? I want a setup in my caravan which is basicly a faraday cage.
I have an usb wifi adaptor to place outside to recieve and send there. I want to use the internal wifi adaptor and/or ethernet for the inside.

THANK YOU SO MUCH , , hahahaha !! It works !! I like you , , please keep it up , , hahahaha !! I have tried the command prompt to activate the WiFi hotspot , simple and with no time , BUFF!! , it started , , thank you so much again , , !!

Sophos is my edge device to ISP where I've created a lot of firewall rules and Sophos is connected to Mikrotik because of this I can't use firewall rules to block or allow any mac address. My issue is some of the workstation Pc users are using a mobile hotspot to connect to the wifi since the blocked applications in the wifi are allowed on their computers because they're from sales and marketing. So, my problem is I want to block them from using mobile hotspot from windows 11 and connect to the AP for wifi access so that I can control what they're accessing.

Hello Kaeyana,

Thank you for reaching out to the community, see you can not control the allow/block action if the client connected to the Internet does not have Sophos Firewall as there gateway. So in this scenario, the best thing would be to have an endpoint that control the network traffic, so that even if someone uses mobile hotspot they may not be able to access the sites blocked in your organization !!

SoftAP is not supported in windows except windows7, you can download and refer WiFiDirectLegacyAPDemo source code in the link.
Up IoT Core driver has supported WiFi Direct APIs, it's no problem to support hotspot.

I saw a comment on reddit saying that since mac address is the same, and I previously connected on windows, there is an issue on ipv6 and removing the device from router setting should solve the problem. Unfortunately my router does not have that option.

Wi-Fi is the fastest option, but if you'd rather connect your hotspot to your PC with Bluetooth, see how to get internet on your PC with a Bluetooth-enabled phone for those directions. Toward the bottom of this page is a look at Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth hotspots.

Setup directions vary considerably if you're using a dedicated mobile hotspot not built-in to your phone. You might need to simply power it on and follow the steps you see on its screen, or there might be a mobile app you pair with the hotspot to complete setup. Directions are provided with the hotspot upon purchase, but they should also be available from the manufacturer's website.

You also need to consider that your computer needs to be always turned on to act as a wireless access point. If the computer enters into sleep, hibernate, or restarts, your wireless hotspot will stop working, and you will need to start manually the feature using the

Some business devices, such as laptops, tablets and smartphones, can benefit from having a wireless hotspot nearby. For laptops, it can be beneficial to work without a wired connection. In the case of tablets and smartphones, using Wi-Fi can help minimize the use of a wireless carrier data package. If you don't have a Wi-Fi-capable router, you can create a hotspot using a PC running the Windows operating system.

I just noticed that my AX200 is transmitting in Wifi 6 (not sure exactly if it's indeed Wifi6 or not, but is shows as wifi6 in my S22 Ultra). Would this be a real Wifi6 transmissition? And would we be able to get something like this in OpenWrt, so we could have cheap x86 builds with Wifi6 using intel cards?

If I connected to LAN & network adapter is on top priority in anti bridging option wifi gets disconnected & unable to enable hotspot. But if I am connected to wifi & wifi is on top priority in anti bridging option then mobile hotspot is getting connected. So how to achieve this?
