Welcome to the Dickcissel Dial the Central Illinois Birding Hotline, today is Thursday the 4th of August, 2022, sponsored by Wild Birds Unlimited in Springfield. With August being the month of shore birds we will strive to have weekly updates for you to track migration. Immature Little Blue Herons have been seen and both Black & Yellow-crowned night herons. Several varieties of terns including Caspian, Black, and Least.

Shorebirds to look for include Baird's, Buff-Breasted, Stilt, and Western Sandpiper. Rudy Turnstones were seen at Emiquon and in Tazewell county. Mississippi Kite in Sangamon county. Cerulean Warbler in Lee county. A couple more reports of that probable 2nd state record of a Lesser Goldfinch in Bureau county. Please let us know if anyone gets photos!

Rhetta won the last trivia with the Yellow-breasted Chat no longer classified as a warbler. Now for this week's question: What woodland bird is known to pull ticks off of deer? Remember, the American Robin says "cheer up, cheerily, cheerily" nicknamed the migratory thrush Illinois is also home to the southern robin which was considered a lighter and duller colored subspecies. Please leave sightings and trivia answers after this message. Enjoy the outdoors!
