Welcome to the Dickcissel Dial the Central Illinois Birding Hotline sponsored by Wild Birds Unlimited in Springfield. Today is Thursday July 21st, 2022. We are back for a summer time update.

There's been reports of yellow-crowned night heron and short-billed dowitcher near Champaign. Possibly a 2nd state record of lesser goldfinch in Bureau County. The popular Male painted bunting has been photographed in East St. Louis. Little blue heron in Springfield at Washington Park and black-bellied whistling duck at twin lakes.

Our last trivia winner was Jeff Emrick answering blackpoll warbler. Now another warbler trivia question: which bird is no longer classified as a new world wood warbler?

Remember the tufted titmouse sings "Peter, Peter, Peter" once considered a southerly bird this species has expanded northward with the popularity of backyard bird feeders and can now be seen statewide.

Thanks for checking in with us this summer and enjoy the outdoors!
