Welcome to the Dickcissel Dial the Central Illinois Birding Hotline sponsored by Wild Birds Unlimited in Springfield. Today is Monday the 21st of November, 2022. Highlights include Tundra Swan in Livingston County, Blue-winged Teal in Sangaom & Coles Counties, Eared Grebe is continuing to be seen in McLean County. A late Eastern Phoebe in Adams County along with Franklin's Gull and Black-legged Kittiwake, Whooping Cranes are making their annual migratory path through Richland, Wayne, and Randolph Counties. Hawk watchers may be in on the lookout in McDonough and Sangamon Counties, for a western variant of the Red-tailed Hawk. White-winged Scoter in Winnebago County, Smith's Longspur in Jasper, and Carolina Chickadee & Black-crowned Night Heron in Madison County. Rusty Blackbirds have been seen near Auburn and Brewer's Blackbird Pleasant Plains in Sangamon, also Brewer's Blackbird in Tazewell County.  Long-eared Owl in Dewitt County. Harris's Sparrow in Woodford County. Pectoral Sandpiper in Coles and Morgan Counties. Evening Grosbeak in Champaign County. Finally a Chipping Sparrow in White County.

The answer to last week's trivia: Common Nighthawk. This week's question: which bird was famed avian artist Roger Tory Peterson's least favorite bird? Remember, the Red-breasted nuthatch says "ink, ink, ink" so pay close attention this winter. It seems to be a good year for them. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the outdoors!
