Welcome to the Dickcissel Dial the Central Illinois Birding Hotline, today is April 6th, 2022. Black-necked Stilt, American Golden Plover, Solitary Sandpiper, and Dunlin have been reported throughout the area marking the start of shorebird arrivals. Louisiana Waterthrush, Northern Parula, Hooded & Palm Warblers are some of the early warblers returning for spring.

There are some remaining Common Redpolls in Coles County. Northern Shrike in McLean County. Neotropic Cormorant in Clinton and Madison County along with a Black-crowned Night Heron in Madison. Snowy Owl counties in Edgar County. Smith's Longspurin Piatt, McLean, and Coles.

Rhetta Jack won the trivia contest by answering Ornithology as the study of birds. This week's question: What would one study if they studied Oology?

Remember, the American Robin says "Cheer up, Cheerily, Cheerily" and was considered a sign of spring. Please leave answers and sightings after the message and enjoy the outdoors!
