If u want to translate or import an orcad layout file to cadence SPB.16/allegro tools, there is a hotfix available with the cadence software package, if not check with the cadence local tech support.

As the title suggests, I'm currently trying to simulate a design containing the OPA322. I downloaded the model from TI website and followed all the instructions contained in Application Report SLOA070 ("Using Texas Instruments Spice Models in PSpice"). I found that the when running an AC sweep simulation, the results are not correct. To better explain what I'm telling you, I implemented a very simple design, that I attached, which is a basic circuit with an OPAMP in non-inverting configuration (schematic.jpg).

If a run a transient simulation, using a sinusoidal waveform as the input (0.5V amplitude, 200Hz frequency), the output voltage is what I expect (transient.jpg). If i run an AC_sweep simulation, the results does not make any sense (ac_sweep.jpg) (I would expect an output of 0.5V in all the pass-band). Looking at the transient simulation I've seen that there is a small glitch at startup (transient_detail.jpg), but I do not know if this has something to do with the weird result.

I had a similar problem exporting a 2D dxf (with closed and open curves) for use in CamBam. CamBam insists on a single polyline for a good toolpath. By default, Rhino exports my curves as a set of arcs, splines and polylines.

The CM4 has numerous VCC and GND pins on the same net that I'd like to be defined as unconnected on placement (that is, OrCAD Capture recognizes each pin as being separate rather than automatically connecting like- named pins to an internal net). I foresee projects with very tight mechanical constraints needing to leave some ground pins unconnected & I want to ensure other designers can do this without manually overriding DRC errors.

Tl; DR: How can I define pins with identical names that remain unconnected from one another in schematic capture? Is there a prefix/suffix I can add to the pin names that is not visible in capture?

I was trying to install Cedence OrCad version 17.4-2019 and i' having problem to choose the installation for all users. Due to Policy restriction i need to install all software under Program FIles but when i run the installer the Option "Anyone who use this computer (All Users)" is Grayed Out and not selectable. It seems that i can install the software with the option "Only for me"

Please reach out to cadence support or your channel partner, they will be able to provide you a patch to overcome this issue. For certain specific machine configuration this problem is seen and patch should work for such systems.

Hmmm...I was told the same thing and realized whoever came up with that idea has no concept of what the tools do. I've been on Allegro since the early 90's and see no useful purpose for system capture.

Can I ask what was the reason you were told this? Were you having issues with capture that that was their reply? To me, V17.4 Capture is a complete disaster...Sure there a re a few features I like but overall it's almost unusable.

Have you been using system capture to interface on a daily basis with customers that use OrCAD capture? You send them OrCAD capture format files that they can read / edit and import their OrCAD capture files? Have you been exporting PADS netlists from system capture to interface with customer that use PADS PCB? Have you been able to import your OrCAD cis database that has thousands of parts into it? OrCAD capture was created for a reason. At one time it was the most powerful schematic capture program out there due to its easy user interface and compatibility with PADS (which had a much larger footprint at the time). System capture isn't going to happen. Maybe all this can be done easily with system capture and I just don't know but it sure doesn't look like it to me so far. It might someday if Cadence makes it work and feel more like OrCAD capture but for now it is not an option for us using the tools. What I'd really like is for Cadence to put some real effort into V17.4...which is without a doubt the most bug riddled version I've ever seen. And I was one of the very first OrCAD Capture customers.

From a blank slate, I can be up and running on OrCAD in little time whereas with Concept (system capture) it takes days....why would I do this when my company operates on effective results? OrCAD is still the easiest tool out there even though it got gutted back at 17.2.50 ish....for no reason whatsoever other than the team dorking with it had no clue what its power was. Cadence needs to tune in to its user base and figure what works and what doesn't

Thank you for that woraround, it worked. I had been trying to modify HOMEPATH because that's what it was complaining about, but changing HOME was what fixed it. As it turns out, HOME was valid: a network drive "U:\" constructed from HOMEDRIVE (U:) and HOMEPATH (\) appended together, however, the installer didn't check for a trailing backslash and was trying to append backslashes to this, resulting in U:\\somepath which isn't valid. By changing the HOME to "U:" it works, as well as changing it to "C:\Documents and Settings\MyUser". I've installed many programs on this box and never had this problem before, I guess the other installers have all been smart enough to construct a path correctly with or without a pre-existing trailing backslash.

We had an XP machine running 16.2 fine. Installed 16.3 into a new directory and it wouldn't load. Removed everything, 16.2 and 16.3 then reinstalled 16.3. Still has the same problem, when I launch orcad cis the first time it never loads. I can see the capture.exe process running in taskmgr, it grabs 50% of the CPU and will hold that for at least several hours without ever fully loading.

Me too. OrCAD Capture 16.3-p008 was working fine. All of a sudden, when I loaded it again, I would get the splash screen. A moment later the splash screen would go away, but the program window never came up. On Windows 7 when I mouse over OrCAD Capture on the task bar, I would get a short window with the program name in it, rather than a thumbnail of the main window -- I think this means the main window wasn't created yet, much less displayed. Task Manager showed the program, but not as "Not Responding". The program easily exited from task bar close window option on popup.

It is so disappointing that we dont have Cadence supported Translator with in our own Cadence tools, I would like to translate Orcad capture schematic to DEHDL flow, I used cap2cond.exe to do the same, still this is not working and stopped in middle. It is not actually creating pc.db, and this method is not supported my cadence! argh... Could anybody suggest a better method of translating capture to DEHDL

I do not known: How to create .DB format to use this one to link to ODBC Sqlite3?
Please help me to create it?
Or How to fix CIS error of Orcad 17.2 when this tool installed on Windows7?

Note: Orcad CIS cadence 17.2 support on Window 10. Is it right or not?

My board is four-layer, with a ground plane underneath the top layer. I have a surface mount IC that has an exposed pad, which should be soldered to ground. I want to avoid putting vias in this pad. Since two edges are free of pins, I am trying to pour a copper region larger then the opening in the solder mask, and then I'll put the vias there, connecting it to the ground plane.

I know all the part manufacturers' example boards and sample designs show massive copper planes right under the pads with no reliefs, but they only do that because it makes the chip look better in the thermal image test. If you want decent yields in production, use a higher power chip, don't run it at the limits and use thermal reliefs. The Contract Manufacturer has spoken.
