PhD Positions in Reinforcement Learning for Autonomous Racing and Procedural Content Generation

We are seeking two highly motivated PhD candidates to start in Fall 2026 to conduct research in Reinforcement Learning (RL) for Autonomous Racing and Procedural Content Generation (PCG). The successful candidates will join our research group and benefit from an active collaboration with our industry partners who supply high-performance direct drive wheels pedals and real-world racing data.

Start: September 2026

Location: Lingnan University (Hong Kong SAR)

Position available: two

Application deadline (university level): 1 December 2025

Requirements:

- Academic background: A Master's degree (MS) in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field

- Research Expertise: Strong theoretical and practical background in one or more of the following areas: RL, PCG and Autonomous Driving

- Excellent writing, communication, and teamwork skills

- Language Proficiency: Reading and writing proficiency in Chinese is strongly preferred for effective collaboration and communication with local industry partners

- A solid publication record would be a plus

Support & Benefits:

- Stipend for direct admission: The monthly stipend for 2025-26 is HK$19,280 (subject to annual review), thus approximately US$2,477.

- Hong Kong PhD Fellowship: The monthly stipend for 2025-26 is HK$28,400 (subject to annual review), thus approximately US$3,650.

- Additional benefits include support to conference travel
