On Windows 10, "Modern" apps are not yet supported, and cannot be placed into bins. Also, Bins will only work on your primary taskbar. If your system has multiple monitors, Bins will only appear on the primary screen.
When adding a new group, you will need to give it a title, an icon that will represent the group on the Windows 10 taskbar, and select the various executables and shortcuts you want to add to the group.
You can use the Windows taskbar API. For C#, .NET makes it available in a neat way. You have to reference the assemblies System.Xaml and Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Shell, then you can use this code:
The problem with most graphical interfaces I've switched among is that they don't group windows, and if you have more terminals or file managers, they'll just clutter the taskbar and you won't know which is which. Windows 7 offers a relatively elegant solution to this by grouping similar window icons together.
Following above steps, the taskbar option "Always combine, hide labels" in Windows 7 can be reproduced similarly in KDE Plasma Desktop. This has been possible beginning from KDE Plasma 4, but the newer generation KDE Plasma 5 has simplified the setup.
Hi, I am starting to have too many application icons in my taskbar... can I have them in groups, that when clicked appear either as a folder style or some other way for me to chose which one I want to open in the group?
I don't know u r using xfce4 or genome, I'm using xfce4 in zorin16lite, i can do that by r-click on taskbar and choice panel-performance and from items get window buttons and edit eye icon like that:

Clicking on the adobe reader icon always makes me choose between every single pdf I have open rather than just opening the program to where I last was. Why can't it just be like firefox or other programs, who group by windows and not by tabs. If you have two windows open, each with five tabs, when you click on the firefox icon it brings up the two windows and you pick which one you want. If you have ten tabs on one firefox window when you click on the firefox icon it just opens that window straight away rather than frustratingly forcing you to choose which tab you want to open! Also I do not want to enable "do not group icons" in the taskbar windows settings because then all of the icons spread out and have text descriptions which is horrible. This is not a problem with windows but with adobe reader. If internet browswers can group by window and not by tab then adobe should be able to too.
Alrighty I found a workaround thanks to one peterschneider buried in the replies to the replies of another question. It would still be preferable if the separate windows were grouped into one icon on the taskbar, like firefox does, but this solution is almost perfect:
1- in Windows open Taskbar Settings - and choose Combine Taskbar Buttoms ---Never ( this will also solve the problem and abobe acrobat opens the last viewed tab maximized but the labels are very big and the taskbar can only show 4-5 labels )
The Windows 11 button grouping option is only available if your PC is fully up-to-date. If it isn't, you can still customize the Windows 11 taskbar in a number of ways, like to change the taskbar alignment, change the taskbar size, hide the taskbar entirely, and disable the News and Interests taskbar widget.
Fortunately the restored task grouping feature of Plasma's Task Manager applet lets me do anything I could with KDE 3, and even more. First, we switch the Grouping setting to 'Manual'. To get to the Task Manager Settings, you click on an empty area of the taskbar. If the taskbar happens to already be full of windows, tough! Finding an empty area is hard. This needs improvement. There is an empty pixel between each task, see if you can find it.
Now let's start using these groups to tidy up my hacking session. Right-click the Code group, click Minimise or press 'N' (on an X60 your fingers are never far from the keyboard) and all the User Interface windows are gone. Get the UI finished, switch to our Code group, job done.
* Left-click a group should react like left clicking a single task - minimise or restore all tasks.
* Double-click to do an inline rename on the group item. Probably that should be consistent with the configured setting for double-click on a window title bar instead, so Alt-double-click would continue the 'Alt means groups' theme.
* Session managed groups. Yes, since suspend to ram became reliable I hardly logout any more, but a monthly Leave, Logout to get the latest KDE point release is conceivable. And I want my session back. I'm beginning to feel like a spoiled brat here.
* The same groupings in the Alt-tab switcher.
* Semantic activity goodness. I want to be able to define my activities desktop wide. And then assign everything that matters to them, task groups, panel layouts, notification intrusiveness. You don't want to interrupt me with an IM while I'm packaging kdepim4 for openSUSE, I might slip and exclude all the Kontact plugins from the RPM.

Suppose you have two programs that are logically one application, and you want them to be treated as a single group on the taskbar, share jump lists, and all that stuff. Basically, even though they are physically separate executables, they should be logically be treated as two facets of the same application.
This the opposite of What if my application is really two applications bundled into a single file, and I want them collected into two groups on the taskbar in Windows 7?. But the solution is the same.
The taskbar is duplicated on each screen by default. This is what you might be used to, but if you use multiple displays, you are also likely to use each screen informally for a purpose. For example, I use one screen for writing and the other for research. Others use on for communication tools like email and messaging, with the other being their working surface.
I have Groupy installed and licensed on two computers. On my laptop, I have a shortcut pinned to the taskbar which when right clicked shows pinned groups, and recent groups. I cannot for the life of my duplicate this shortcut on my taskbar on my desktop computer. You can see an example of what I'm referring to below.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Just try this. Open your saved groupy folder in Windows Explorer. Usually at "C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Groupy" (replace xxxxx with your username). Click and drag on any one of your saved group over the taskbar until something like below screenshot appear. Release and Pinned groupy should appear. Right Click on it will make something like what you posted above. Try it and report back.
Is there a registry tweak or a group policy object that would allow me to set a setting which displays application icons only on taskbars where the window is open? Without GPO or registry tweak this can be set by right clicking on taskbar, selecting properties, and then for Windows 10 with multiple displays the setting can be set at the bottom to one of the following: "All taskbars", "Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open", or "Taskbar where window is open". The latter is what I am trying to enforce on workstations via GPO or registry tweak.
Taskbar groups is a new open source program for Microsoft Windows devices to create groups of icons on the taskbar. The main idea of the program is to bundle multiple shortcuts on the taskbar to save space on it. While that may not be required on large resolution systems, it may still make sense on these for productivity purposes.
First thing you need to do is download the latest version of Taskbar groups from the project's GitHub website. You find the source code files on the project site as well in case you want to check it out or compile the program from scratch.
Hit the save button once you have added the shortcuts to save the configuration. You may create additional groups and associate different shortcuts with these. All data is saved to the program folder; it may be a good idea to move the application to a secure place on the device to avoid deleting it and its configuration accidentally as all shortcut groups are deleted in this case.
The icons are not added to the taskbar automatically at this point. You need to left-click on the title in the program interface to open the new shortcut folder in Explorer. In Explorer, right-click on the folder and select the "pin to taskbar" option to add it to the taskbar.
Taskbar groups has several purposes. Besides using it to bundle applications of the same kind, e.g. web browsers, image or video editing tools, or games, it may be helpful to bundle portable programs to the taskbar.
Taskbar groups is a straightforward application that works well. It could use a number of usability improvements such as making it easier to add programs from the taskbar or Start to list, or adding an option to run all of the grouped programs with a click.
I am using taskbar groups, but for some reason, the Chrome group that I create, does not open Chrome at all.
I have 3 profiles in Chrome, and I have added them to a taskbar group, but when I click on any Chrome shortcut in the taskbar group, it does nothing.
I have same thing with Edge, but that works flawlessly, all 3 profiles opening without any problem.
goraft, if you hold Shift while press Click2 on a pinned item from your taskbar, it will bring the regular context menu for a shortcut/executable file. This works on programs which are not currently running though.
On the "taskbar corner overflow" list (see settings -> personalization), there are two Dropbox icons. One shows version 147.3.4761 when you browse over, the second one does not show anything when you browse over.
I contacted the Dropbox support team who blame it on Windows, but I suspect the issue lies with the installation and having two Dropbox icons in the "taskbar corner overflow" list. I tried to reset the taskbar list but it didn't work.
