Nene noted that most people in rural communities don't know how to recycle electronic waste, which can be dangerous because the waste contains toxic chemicals. She pointed out that if the country recycled this waste, this couldgenerate significant financial benefits and jobs.
The chemistry student explained that these electronic materials are at present recycled by only a few institutions that are committed to going green. However, the waste is sent out of the country, where it will be processed into new products and sold back to South Africa.
