Fisheries and Marine Scientist Project Manager

Location: Based in Tristan da Cunha

The RSPB is seeking to appoint a Fisheries and Marine Scientist / Project Manager to implement our new Darwin Plus project "Sustainable Management of the marine environment and resources of Tristan da Cunha". The postholder will lead investigation of the inshore biology of Tristan lobsters. This will involve diving and remote sampling, and will include the use of plankton hauls, larval traps and tagging. The post-holder will also provide training to Tristan da Cunha Fisheries Department staff in sampling, data recording, statistics and data processing.

This post is an exciting opportunity to assist in developing one of the world's most unique fisheries as well as exploring and preserving Tristan's remarkable marine environment.

Salary

£24,000 to £28,000 per annum

Hours: Full time
Contract: 2 year Fixed Term contract

Marine Biologist

TThe RSPB is seeking to appoint a Marine Biologist to support the implementation of the Darwin Plus project "Sustainable Management of the marine environment and resources of Tristan da Cunha". The postholder will gather information to improve understanding of the functioning of the shallow water marine ecosystems of the Tristan islands, leading to better-informed decisions on the use of marine natural resources and a better understanding of and preparedness for the likely impacts of climate change in the marine environment. The role will involve underwater survey work (diving) and will work closely with the Tristan community. This post is a unique chance to work on Tristan and explore its amazing marine environment.

Salary

£23,000 to £27,000 per annum
