This forthcoming Jersey-based conference may be of interest to people….
I am contacting you to enquire if you might be interested in this conference, which will be in the Members Room of the Societe Jersiaise over the weekend of the 5th-7th July.
This conference is a historic event, marking the 140th Anniversary of the Societe's founding in 1873, and the centenary of the Archaeology Section in 1913. It is being organised by Robert Waterhouse FSA - the Societe's field archaeologist, whose work with the Societe over the last three years has seen a much greater understanding of Jersey's past.
A world-class list of speakers will give islanders a good overview of archaeological research into the island's human history. These include Dr Matt Pope, leader of the research into Jersey's Ice Age past; Dr David Nicolas-Mery - Director of Museums in Granville and expert on the ancient links between Normandy and the Channel Islands; Guernsey's John McCormack - expert on the islands' ancient buildings - and various experts from Jersey, who will be talking about recent cutting edge research such as the discovery of the Celtic Coin Hoard, St Clement's medieval priory and discoveries in St Helier.
I have attached the programme - which is also available on the Societe's website - www.societe-jersiaise.org - and look forward to seeing some of you in July.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Waterhouse FSA
Field Archaeologist - Societe Jersiaise
