Outlander is a historical drama television series based on the Outlander series of historical time travel novels by Diana Gabaldon. Developed by Ronald D. Moore and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures for Starz, the show premiered on August 9, 2014. It stars Caitrona Balfe as Claire Randall, a married former World War II nurse, later surgeon, who in 1946 finds herself transported back to the Scotland of 1743 where she meets and falls in love with the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings.[1][2]

The seventh season consists of 16 episodes split into two eight-episode parts, with the first half debuting on June 16, 2023,[3] and the second on November 22, 2024.[4] In January 2023, the series was renewed for a 10-episode eighth and final season.[5] As of August 11, 2023,[update] 83 episodes of Outlander have aired, concluding the first half of the seventh season.

Things are picking up in this episode of Outlander, and the excitement of what is coming and how it will be depicted keeps us on our toes. I am to the point in my journey with the Outlander novels that I have reached non-reader status, although I am not afraid of spoilers, and Google is my friend. I only read through Book 7, An Echo in the Bone, and while I own Books 8 and 9, I have not picked either up as it has been so long since I read Book 7. I tried, I did, but the supporting characters no longer ring a bell.

The dream Claire (Caitriona Balfe) escapes into given precise focus; the reality of an aggravated assault by a gang of men blurred so Claire distanced from us into a ghost-like nightmare presence

The closing shots as Jamie and Claire accept the future will hold further harsh experience, which may bring the death they have read in the obituary for them Roger located in the 20th century Scottish library

As they came to the Ridge from the scene of high violence, Jamie speaks the beautiful over-voice meant to encapsulate his code of life, and as he is giving his life to these people so they are all willing to accede to, form themselves around his identity too:

I agree. On the DVD there is a feature where the writers, director and Caitriona Balfe discuss the episode and make the point they aimed at being respectful of all women who have endured such an experience, at (in short) of taking it seriously. The director said he was concerned not to be voyeuristic, and he was not.

[ Boys and young men of starving homeless Highlanders then conscripted as canon fodder for British Army, where they died in much higher proportions than did their fellow (British) soldiers; eventually Highland Regiments and officers distinguished themselves as loyal and ferocious subjects, burning and killing Cherokee in 7 Years War. ]

I felt Season 5 to be quite different from all the other seasons and put it down to Roger Moore being more distant from what was going on. The slower pace, the careful limitation of violence (and the choice not to stylize) and how it was treated with real seriousness every time, a number of things. Toni Graphia and Matthew Roberts are more in charge.

I think you bring up some very good points. Like you, I really don't know. However, I think both the writers and actors strikes did halt much of the post-production work so there was that delay. Additionally, I don't think they were sure that there would be a Season 8 as they were filming Season 7 so there might have been quite a bit of reconfiguring things now that they had more time to work with the story. Just my thoughts. I'm waiting patiently until November. We wait for Diana's amazing books so I can wait for Outlander Season 7B as well.

Your reflection on Power Book II: Ghost is interesting BUT is it as popular as Outlander?? Outlander chose to continue for a final season. It wasn't canceled by Starz like Power Book. Though Power Book II is getting a prequel just like Outlander (cheaper costs - see below article) So I suppose... with the mindset of canceling series after 4 seasons to introduce cheaper spin offs... fans of Outlander should be grateful that Starz even agreed to a final 8th Season. Keep wondering if the delay is more to connect prequel with original to ensure success. So Outlander 7B runs in the final months of 2024, followed by prequel in early/mid 2025, then Season 8 in late (hopefully not as late as 7B) 2025. I think frustration with fans is knowing Season 7 is complete and sound suspicion that the delay is purely business...highly influenced by Starz & Liongate parting ways.

Such good pint about scheduling. I'm slightly disability the timing but I figures the strike and the renewal for a S8 could have also impacted the decision.
For me the really awful part was how the notice was shared. The SM post was too low key. As if they wanted to fly under the radar. They should know the OL fan base is not low key. With a bit of forthrightness and a we but if humor I think they could have done such a better job sharing the news. That could have created a sense of partnership and empathy between Starz and the fans. A real missed opportunity IMO.

For those who might wonder why Power got priority over Outlander, Power is Starz' most popular show (Outlander is second). I think the intensity of Outlander fans' devotion makes us feel like no show could be more popular, but it isn't actually so.

News flash-- Jerking loyal fans around, posting seasons YEARS later, splitting up seasons-- I am very angry to be frank. This isn't Season 7B-- it's 'season 8'. Season 8 is actually season 9.. drip, drip, drip- lets just drag this out as long as possible, and rack in the bucks. It's terrible. Will I watch? No-- not until all these episodes are out. Then? Cancelling Starz-- again. Sorry there was a writers strike. Stop taking fans for granted. It's a bad practice.

Nobody seems to notice that there are 6 (count 'em...SIX) other days in a week. Is Outlander glued to Fridays? And isn't the move from Sunday to Friday a big part of the reason viewers left? I was looking at a Netflix show that was cancelled after 3 seasons, then picked up by Netflix for three more seasons, each of which were 22 episodes without HUGE gaps between seasons. ("Lucifer") Maybe someone at Starz could take notes on how that could work for them.

[8:18 p.m.] The point where I have to remind myself that, somehow, this bring-me-down of a human raised two beautiful, compassionate, smart and capable young women. Proof that genetics only plays a part in the shaping of a human.

[8:46 p.m.] I love how Roger stood ready to make the leap, conjuring up memories of Claire. But unlike Claire necessitating a jump in the dark sea to reach Jamie on the other side, Roger must stay put to experience the same endgame with Bree.

Thank you thank you thank you Ashley for that recap .. you brought me a little joy with this episode that was such a disappointment for me. I loved all the Frank stuff maybe with the exception of the Drunken Frank that was a little uncomfortable. Roger and Bonnet storyline was great. Rick, Ed and Sophie are really capturing the essence of their characters. then what .. the Uncharted remake and all that time at Laoghaire B&B. Why not more time with her Uncle Ian and cousins? why no Pearl squabble? Now I have my blood boiling and I think I need to pour another glass of wine.

Amazing five kilt episode for me. Right from the start, it had me captivated: In just seeing Bree making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and seeing the contents of her purse, it cemented her as a character who valued practicality.

It was not a surprise that Leghaire turned so violent the minute Claire was mentioned, but it was quite sad. After so many years, Leghaire still mistakenly believed that Claire was the one who was the one who came between her and Jamie.

If anything I believe that back at Castle Leoch, Jamie was just amusing himself with Leghaire, and took the beating for her out of his own guilt. Leghaire was under a delusion that he cared for her more than he did.

We now know when exactly that will be, thanks to an announcement delivered to fans on "World Outlander Day" on June 1. The annual holiday celebrates the anniversary of the publication of Diana Gabaldon's first book in the best-selling historical fantasy series.

Audiences can look forward to one episode being released every week on Fridays at midnight ET on all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms. On linear, the new episodes will debut weekly at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

A synopsis of the new episodes shared by Starz alongside the teaser trailer released on June 1 indicates that Jamie and Claire are not necessarily on safe ground just because they're back in Scotland.

The synopsis continues: "Meanwhile, Roger and Brianna face new enemies across time and must battle the forces that threaten to pull their family apart. As loyalties change and painful secrets come to light, Jamie and Claire's marriage is tested like never before."

The 2023 actors and writers' strikes in Hollywood put a pin on almost all productions for a while and caused something of a backlog, but "Outlander" fans will be pleased to learn that the second part of season seven was filmed way ahead of time between 2022 and early 2023.

The cast and crew returned to the set in Scotland to begin filming both parts of the season back to back in April 2022 and confirmed via an announcement on Twitter that filming had concluded in February 2023.

However, since season six was truncated, the first part of season seven actually covered some later events from Diana Gabaldon's sixth "Outlander" installment, "A Breath of Snow and Ashes," before delving into the events of the seventh book, "An Echo in the Bone."
