Hi all,I have been looking for ways to improve the espeak user experience including modifying/adding new voices and came across this article regarding Gespeaker which is a graphical interface for espeak. It's easier to use especially for bits of text which you can cut and paste from a webpage and have read. To expand the text window to accommodate large chunks of texts click on the "advanced settings" button (see image).

There is an option for variant in the voice section (where you have male and female - which work). I don't know how to make use of this to add a variant (of a voice?). I will update this if I find a way.

Posted May 5, 2019 How to make voice working on firestorm 6 and linux. I check all parameter but no!!! Someone have the idea of firewall. How can check that ? Any idea ?

There are no updated voice libs for linux from Vivox, and none coming. LL support for Linux is dead, firestorm are putting up a good fight to keep their port going though I doubt that can last long term.

You need to enable 32 bit libs first, this is tricky in ubuntu and works flawlessly in Mint linux, as they still have them in their repos. Secondly, look at this link for needed libs/packages. It doesn't matter that there is no updated voice supplied, it will work if you get the needed libs installed per that page. I have done it and it works!

Wine works pretty well for a lot of programs, but my experience with the SL viewer has been mixed. Is there any recent info on setting this up? Likewise for Wine and Firestorm. SL16B is getting close, and if it is anything like last year, a lot of events are going to be a waste of time without voice access.

I tryed to install with wine but it is worst The graphic card does not work. At least with the linux version It works well. Only voice is missing. I think I will use windows. It is much more simple. I am glad I still have it

if your using firestorm theirs a simple way to run voice under wine. with the native linux client in the debug settings. first unpack firestorm in your home directory i like to make a /bin/firestorm directory to hold it.

That makes sense. Trying to run Firestorm under Wine means Wine has to emulate the Windows interface to the graphics card, which, if it works at all, will be slow. But running Vivox under Wine should be fine. Firefox tells Vivox what to do by sending it XML telling it to make voice connections. Vivox has no user interface of its own, so it doesn't mess with the windows. So putting Vivox in its own little Windows box is useful.

to be honest SL voice in native Linux is dead which is why firestorm added that hook to run the windows version in wine and use it threw the native client. to be honest using this hook you don't notice any difference. from the old native version other than it's easier to set up.

Mind, I've never had to use it so I cannot tell you much more. Up until I switched away from Ubuntu/Xubuntu to Manjaro, I got voice working by manually installing a particular library ... libidn11:i386. You could also get around this by Symbolic linking the current libidn's i386 module.

Today you can run Ubuntu on a single-board computer (SBC) like Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, or BeagleBone. At the same time, one can have it on a server or a desktop. Below we look at options for running Speech-to-Text on an Ubuntu machine. Then we dive deeper into how to run Picovoice Leopard Speech-to-Text Engine on Ubuntu.

I am starting a work which needs to convert audio into text. I am using the speechrecognition library of python. I saw a tutorial on github on how to use it. The program is not bale to recognise my voice through microphone.

Handsfree worked in the past and still work, the sound is quite compressed. Since pipewire I seem to have access to a new profile, but it's still painful to listen to anything else than voice with it.

Hi everyone. So today I found out shotcut, which I have been using together with openshot for about 2+ years now has had voiceover since the dinosaur era. I am trying to learn how to use it and I followed a video about it but the options do not work. I tried ALSA, PulseAudio (I do not see Pipewire which I believe is the one being used right now on Ubuntu 22.10).

- I open app.gotomeeting.com and enter my meeting-id.
- I select computer and continue.
- I allow Chromium to access to my microphone.
- Select my microphone and speaker.
- I test both of them: Speaker plays music. Green bar responds to my voice.
- I start the meeting, wait for the organizer.
- Meeting is open, I hear everyone, my camera works (after allow it for Chromium), but my microphone does not work. GoTo says it does not have permissions.

Since I don't like GNOME, I also downloaded Lubuntu, which is Ubuntu, but with LXDE instead of GNOME. Same versions 20.10, 88, 88. I was surprised, that my laptop-microphone did not work here. Neither in de.mictests.com nor in GoTo. The logitech-webcam/microphone worked here too (not in GoTo meeting).

Although I don't want to use my laptop-microphone, this seems to be the problem with GoTo. In the select-audio-screen everything works in Goto. But if my laptop-microphone is not working (Debian and Lubuntu) no microphone at all is working in the meeting, even if it worked seconds before in the select-audio-screen.

Giving voice to the local African community to tell their stories through music and spoken word. Challenging one-sided political narratives that deny our contribution to society and create hostility toward our community. ENGLISH, DINKA, NUER, ARABIC

I'm running Xubuntu 21.04 and when I'm listening to mixcloud and visit certain sites using Firefox the sound starts to crackle and gets distorted. It can only be resolved by restarting Firefox, but restarting the browser is quite annoying. I added a bookmark to the URL "about:RestartRequired" to make the process a little less painful. I had to restart my browser fairly often until I found the following fixes to resolve the problem and find the cause.

It is not possible to install the official UP kernel for Ubuntu 16.04! Package not found! Now I have to install the ubuntu the 12 time again with no answer to my problem! after deleting the kernel from Ubuntu 18.04 I have to install ubuntu new, because Up is in a bootloap (without kernel !!)

"The inclusion of PulseAudio is much coveted mainly because the geeks with the biggest voice see the features of being able to control each application's volume levels as very attractive," he told us. "What we're moving from is Alsa, but that's not quite true because it's really more of a case of adding another sound system to the existing set.
