Our next CIDUG meeting is April 22nd and is a presentation by
Douglas Sjoquist entitled "Lessons learned building an iOS app's backend with Microsoft Azure".

The presentation will begin at 6:30.

For this event, we will be meeting at the OCLC. The address is

Kilgour Auditorium
6600 Kilgour Place
Dublin, Ohio   43017-3395

Abstract:

There is a lot to like about Microsoft’s Azure offerings, but as with any technology there are some rough patches as well. I will share what I found straightforward and what I struggled with, what I enjoyed and what I hated, and make some recommendations about when using Azure makes sense and when it might not.

We will discuss what I learned adding a server component and admin web app to an existing iOS app. The system has multiple levels of security and access, uploads and downloads of large video and PDF files, and server side administration.

The system makes use of several components from Microsoft’s Azure stack:

- Mobile Services
- SQL Database
- Storage services (used for video files and PDFs)
- Web site

Bio:

Since writing my first BASIC program on a time-share system in the late 70s, I've been hooked on software development.  I’ve developed software for clients to run on everything from TRS-80s to mini-computers and I now focus on those magical little iDevices we carry in our pockets.

The best way to catch up with me is on twitter @dwsjoquist.
