I am in the process of building a small commercial cidery in Iowa.  I am interested in the Voran presses, but I can't seem to locate a distributor in the US to get pricing, etc.  Anyone able to help?  Thanks

See http://www.voran.at/en/machinery/contact/partners/

They don't list a US agent. You need to contact them directly in Austria

You can buy a Belt Press in the US. They are not Vigo/Voran
Frontier Technology Inc, in Allegan, Michigan also produces a belt press.
You can get most wearable parts for it at a Grainger/McMacster-Carr website.

Hi

We manufacture similar presses in New Zealand. Check out http://www.oren.co.nz. Will upload videos in the very near future.

Are you talking about the Maximizer?  It looks like the one we have.  We found that the resulting pomace had pretty large chunks - up to 1 inch in diameter - even if we started with quartered apples (using whole apples makes it almost impossible to turn the crank).  This makes juice extraction pretty inefficient.  And the hand crank aspect also made for very slow and labor intensive processing.  Last season we borrowed a neighbor's electric grinder and were able to process four times the apples in half the time.

What kind of electric grinder did they have? Pleasant hill has what they are simply calling an electric apple grinder looks like the ones you see on the Euro sites but doesnt have many specifics like what kind of voltage etc. Take that hand crank off and throw it away, put a 3/4 inch drill with a locking trigger on, one person can use it this way with very good flowthru. I would like to get an electric one, just chunking out 1000$ for it far outweighs the loss of juice from using the big red grinder. WVMJ

I think West Virginia Mountaineer Jack is talking about this pleasant hill grinder.

You can also see it on this page.

At $965 dollars it looks decent.

I am comparing it to the other semi-commercial grinder offered by oesco.

http://www.oescoinc.com/orchard-nursery/cider-elevator-grinder/6-inch-hdpe-apple-grinder.html

That one costs twice as much and is custom made.

You can find a video of the oesco grinder in use on youtube.

I am interested in taking my grinder to a more serious operation, and would like to choose something like one of the above.

Has anyone used the pleasant hill grinder.

I am in the USA.

See http://www.oren.co.nz/index.php/9-uncategorised/77-ciderpress

Can I just point out from the admin side that this group doesn't permit advertising per se. However, the occasional mention of the availability of relevant goods and services from specific outlets as an assistance to members is of course acceptable.

Our rules state "Advertising of any commercial product or service on these forums is generally not permitted, unless it is ‘on topic’ and relevant to members. "

Apologies Andrew. Totally understand why you need these rules and will abide by them in future. Enjoying the various postings in this group and learning lots more about cider production around the world.

Voran doesn't ship to the US. I spoke to the factory. the closest supplier is in England. Belt presses are being replaced with pneumatic presses. ATI used to be the main supplier. Over the years cider mills switched to other ways of pressing apples. I do like the Voran press. Check out www. Niko-si.si they make pneumatic presses and belt presses

does anyone have an approved HACCP plan that I may use to modify for my cider mill

See here for some ideas http://www.ciderworkshop.com/commercial_HACCP.html

Note that this is based on British practice. In other countries it may
be different. For instance, here in the UK it is normal practice to
harvest all cider fruit after shaking and falling on to the ground,
where it may lie for days or even weeks before collection. In other
jurisdictions this may be forbidden.

Beware of Core Equip, nasty tendency to leave customers in the lurch and back out of deals leaving customers with large bills for no reason, pay a little more and use Vigo, they know how to provide good service.

Hi Richard, i have an Oren press. Here is a picture of mine. I have found it very reliable and a great step up from my old hand cranked one. Cheers Trevor

It's actually a combination grind and press unit made by Corell (http://www.applejournal.com/correll/.  I'm probably mechanical enough to modify our hand crank grinder, but the pomace is smaller with the Corell, and having it drop from the grinder directly into the pressing basket saves time and energy, too.  I think we've been using either the medium or medium plus, which has worked well for volume we're currently producing.

Did you decide on a press for your start-up? I've also noticed that there is no distributor for Voran in the U.S., regrettably.

Thanks for asking Kelly.  Current plan is to build our own press based on some others we have seen using a 20 ton air hydraulic bottle jack.  Hoping to combine good ideas from several presses we have seen.
