National industry body Cider Australia today opened entries to Australia’s largest and most prestigious cider competition, the Australian
Cider Awards.
Entrants will compete for accolades in 31 commercial classes when the expert judging panel comes together to blind taste
hundreds of ciders, specialty ciders and apple & pear spirits.
President of Cider Australia and chair of the Awards organizing committee Warwick Billings reiterated that the craft
cider category in Australia is continuing to develop and mature with more and more ciders being produced, and increasingly 100% Australian apples being used.
"Our Awards have a broad range of classes to allow all of the many versions of cider to be judged against
their peers. This year we have also reintroduced the judging of keg ciders, recognizing their importance in the market, and a new Trophy for best new Entrant."
"Entering the Awards is an excellent way to compare products against industry benchmarks in Australia,
receive independent feedback from industry experts and potentially win a prize, and with early-bird entry fees applying for the next three weeks there is no better time to enter", said Warwick.
This year we are thrilled to welcome
Gabe
Cook from the UK as our international judge. Known professionally as The Ciderologist, Gabe is an independent, global cider expert with over 15
years experience of working with the fermented apple, from small farmhouse ciders makers to the world’s largest.
