I wonder if anyone knows any red fleshed cider apple varieties? I have a tree sold to me as a Slack ma Girdle, and whilst the apple looks like one (small to medium size, flat shape, green under skin with heavy red flush all over, a hazy sheen all over which can be rubbed off easily), mine have red flesh and are ripe now, not late as most books say. I suspect it's a cider apple as most apples are quite small and have a tendency to cluster on the branch. It's very sweet, not much else going for it, but not a bad, if somewhat small, eater. The tree has red bark on new growth, the blossom is a rich pink and it's quite a beautiful tree in spring.
But I don't think it's a Slack ma Girdle.
Cheers!
