At its recent meeting, Unesco declared the Asturian cider culture to be Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Undoubtedly something deserved given its tradition and uniqueness.

I have just come back from there after cramming the maximum amount of visits in as possible- what a place!
I spoke to some locals in the hills around and it was great to see a personal production on such a large scale,  the whole culture & religion is base around cider.
I managed to bring back some Scion wood to add to my collection in the orchard too.


Interesting to see that sparkling cider is still called Champagne…. I wonder if there was some kind of showdown from the French like there was with Bulmers?

The word "champagne" is colloquial. The official and legal name is "sidra espumosa"
